In his hands are "the deep places of the earth, the firength "of the hills is his alfo. The fea is his, "and he made it; and his hands formed "the dry land. O come, let us worship, "and bow down, let us kneel before the "Lord our maker; for he is our God, and "we are the people of his pafture, and the fheep of his hand." Mofes alfo was careful to imprefs the Ifraelites with this important truth, as well as with the belief of the unity, and creating power of God, Deut. x. 14. 66 Behold, the heaven, and "the heaven of heavens is the Lord's thy God, the earth alfo, with all that therein " is." The abfolute fovereignty of God is also ftrongly expreffed by Paul, 1 Cor. iii. 21. Let no man glory in men, for all things are your's, and ye are Chrift's, and Chrift "is God's." Alfo, 1 Cor. xv. 24. "Then " cometh "cometh the end, when he fhall have de"livered up the kingdom to God, even "the Father, when he fhall have put down "all rule, and all authority, and power; for "he muft reign till he hath put all enemies "under his feet. But when he faith all things are put under him, it is manifeft that he is excepted who did put all things "under him. And when all things fhall "be fubdued unto him, then shall the Son alfo himself be fubject unto him that put "all things under him, that God may be "all in all." The one true God is alfo reprefented, in the fcriptures, as the fole preferver, and conftant upholder of all things. Upon the occafion of the folemn faft, and prayer, which was obferved by the Jews upon their return from the Babylonifh captivity, they fay, Neh. ix. 5. &c. "Bleffed be thy glo"rious name, which is exalted above all 66 bleffing and praise. Thou, even thou art "Lord alone, thou haft made heaven, the "heaven of heavens, with all their hoft, "the earth, and all things that are therein, "the "the fea, and all that is therein, and thou preferveft them all, and the hoft of heaven "worship thee." David expreffes the fame fentiment more fully, Pf. cxix. 90. "Thou "haft eftablished the earth, and it abideth. They continue this day, according to thine "ordinances, for all are thy fervants." them; ciii. 19. The divine fovereignty, with respect to the abfolute difpofal of all things, is a neceffary confequence of his fole property in and this alfo is frequently and ftrongly expreffed in the fcriptures,, Pf. "The Lord hath prepared his "throne in the heavens, and his kingdom "ruleth over all." Perhaps the fulleft, and the most explicit acknowledgment of this kind, is that which was made by Nebuchadnezzar, after his humiliation, Dan. iv. 1. 35. 37. "Nebuchadnezzar the king, "unto all people, nations, and languages "that dwell in all the earth, peace be mul tiplied unto you. I thought it good to "fhew the signs and wonders, that the high "God hath wrought toward me. How 66 great are his figns! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlast ing kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation. And all the "inhabitants of the earth are reputed as "nothing: and he doeth according to his "will in the army of heaven, and among "the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or fay unto him, What "doeft thou? Now I Nebuchadnezzar "praife and extol and honour the king of “heaven, all whofe works are truth, and his ways judgment, and thofe that walk "in pride he is able to abase.” The divine being himfelf makes the following folemn declaration, If. xlvi. 9. "Remember the former things of old, for "I am God, and there is none elfe; I am "God, and there is none like me. De 66 claring the end from the beginning, and "from antient times the things that are not yet done, faying, My counfel fhall stand, "and I will do all my pleasure. I have 66 spoken it, I will alfo bring it to pass; I "have purpofed it, I will alfo do it." Daniel, in his thankfgiving to God, on account of of the revelation that was made to him of Nebuchadnezzar's dream, fays, Dan. ii. 20. "Bleffed be the name of God for ever and "ever: for wisdom and might are his. And "he changeth the times and the feafons: "he removeth kings, and fetteth up kings: "he giveth wifdom unto the wife, and "knowledge to them that know understand ing." Cyrus made the fame acknowledgment, when, in his decree for rebuilding the temple of Jerufalem, he faid, Ezra i. 2. "Thus faith Cyrus king of Perfia, The "Lord God of heaven hath given me all "the kingdoms of the earth, and he hath charged me to build him an houfe at Je"rufalem, which is in Judah." Power and wiflom are afcribed to this one God in the highest degree, and in the most emphatical manner in the bocks of fcripture. Indeed, this is neceffarily implied, in what has been already recited, concerning his being the maker and governor of all things. I shall, however, quote a few paffages with this view only.
