Take courage, O my soul! this life which seems,.

381

Tell me of that great Physician,.

That awful day will surely come,.

That man no guard, no weapon needs,..

The hour of my departure's come,..
The Lord descended from above,
The moment comes, the only one,..
The praying spirit breathe,.
The ransomed spirit to her home,..
The Saviour, oh! what endless charms,.
The Son of God is gone to war,......
The voice of Free Grace,.

.....

Then I have conquered; then at last,.
There in peace his dust is laid,..

There is a fold where none can stray,..
There is a fountain filled with blood,.
There is a good and pleasant land,.
There is a house not made with hands,
There is a place of woe unmixed,..
There is a stream that maketh bright,
There is a thought can lift the soul,.
They who seek the throne of grace,.
This God is the God we adore,.
This stone to Thee in faith we lay,.

Thou art gone to the grave, but we will not deplore thee, 241

Thou art my hiding-place, O Lord,

Thou comforter Divine,..

Thou God of glorious majesty,..

Thou hidden love of God, whose height,

Thou Judge of quick and dead,...
Thou, O my Jesus! Thou didst me,..
Thus far the Lord hath led me on,.
Thy will be done in devious way,.
"Tis not too arduous an essay,.
To-day if ye will hear His voice,..
To-day the Saviour calls,..
To God I lift my eyes,..

To Jesus, the crown of my hope,....
Tossed no more on life's rough billow,.

'Twas on that dark, that doleful night,..

Unveil thy bosom, faithful tomb,..

Upward I lift mine eyes,.

Vain, delusive world, adieu,.. . . . .
Vain man, thy fond pursuits forbear,

Wait, O my soul! thy Maker's will,.
Watchman, tell us of the night,..
Watchmen, onward to your stations, .
We are pilgrims on the earth,...
We're travelling home to heaven above,.
We sing the praise of Him who died,..
Welcome, welcome, dear Redeemer,..
What blissful harmonies above,..
What sinners value I resign,.

What's this that steals,...

What think ye of Christ, is the test,.

.....

What though time on earth were over,.

HYMNS

AND

DEVOTIONAL POETRY.

I. GOD.

1.

HOLY, holy, holy Lord!

Thou God of hosts by all adored:

L.M.

The earth and heavens are full of Thee,
Thy light, Thy power, Thy majesty.

2 Loud hallelujahs to Thy name,
Angels and seraphim proclaim;
By all the powers and thrones in heaven,
Eternal praise to Thee is given.

3 Apostles join the glorious throng
And swell the loud triumphant song;
Prophets and martyrs hear the sound,
And spread the hallelujahs round.

4 Glory to Thee, O God most high!
Father, we praise Thy majesty;
The Son, the Spirit we adore,
One Godhead blest forevermore.

CONDER.

2.

[AIL! holy, holy, holy Lord!
Whom One in three we know;
By all Thy heavenly host adored,
By all Thy Church below.

2 One undivided Trinity,

With triumph we proclaim;
Thy universe is full of Thee,

And speaks Thy glorious name.

3 Thee, holy Father, we confess
Thee, holy Son, adore:
Thee, Spirit of truth and holiness,
We worship evermore.

4 The incommunicable right,

Almighty God, receive!

C.M.

Which angel-choirs, and saints in light, And saints embodied give.

5 Three persons, equally divine, We magnify and love:

And both the choirs ere long shall join To sing thy praise above.

6 Hail! holy, holy, holy Lord!
(Our heavenly song shall be,)
Supreme, essential One, adored
In coëternal Three.

WESLEY.
