Rev. JAMES MERRICK, M. A. COLLECTION OF HYMNS, Printed and Sold by J. Raw; Sold also by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, PREFACE. It is unnecessary, on the present occasion, to enlarge on the Utility and Importance of PSALMODY, as constituting an essential part of public devotion. The obligations we are under to celebrate the praises of the Deity, and the edification and improvement which naturally arise from so devout and pleasing an exercise, must be sufficiently obvious to every pious and well-disposed mind. Indeed, from the earliest æra of religious Establishments to the present day, it has ever formed an interesting and important branch of public worship. The PSALMS OF DAVID, indited under the immediate guidance of Inspiration, have, therefore, the first and the highest claim to the attention of a Christian assembly. * Composed * Bishop Horne. |
