5.-GRATITUDE AND CONSECRATION.

"Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.

,,

1 COME, Thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy never ceasing

Call for songs of loudest praise.

2 Here I raise my Ebenezer.

Hither by Thy help I'm come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure. Safely to arrive at home.

3 Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God, He, to rescue me from danger,

Interposed with precious blood.

4 Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let that grace now, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

5 Prone to wander-Lord, I feel it-
Prone to leave the God I love,-
Saviour take my heart and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

3 I thank Thee more that all our joy
Is touched with pain,
That shadows fall on brightest hour
That thorns remain ;

[gui So that earth's bliss may be cu And not our chain.

"He saith unto them. Follow Me."

US calls us; o'er the tumult our life's wild restless sea, by day His sweet voice soundeth, ying, "Christian, follow Me"; of old, Apostles heard it y the Galilean lake,

sus calls us: by Thy mercies Saviour, may we hear Thy call, ve our hearts to Thy obedience, Serve and love Thee best of all.

I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be iny guide.

2 Oh, let me feel Thee near me :
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,

The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me.
Around me and within:
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.
3 Oh, let me hear Thee speaking
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will.
Oh, speak to re-assure nie,
To hasten or control:
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul !
4 O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And, Jesus, I have promised

To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,

My Master and my Friend!

5 Oh, let me see Thy foot-marks, And in them plant mine own: My hope to follow duly

Is in Thy strength alone!
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end,

And then in heaven receive me,
My Saviour and my Friend!

I

Amen,

NOW thank we all our God With heart and hands and voices, Who wondrous things hath done, In whom His world rejoices; Who, from our mother's arms Hath blest us on our way With countless gifts of love, And still is ours to-day.

I JESUS, Master, whose I am,
Purchased, Thine alone to be,
By Thy blood, O spotless Lamb,
Shed so willingly for me,
Let my heart be all Thine own,
Let me live to Thee alone.

2 Other lords have long held sway;
Now, Thy name alone to bear,
Thy dear voice alone obey,
Is my daily, hourly prayer:
Whom have I in heaven but Thee?
Nothing else my joy can be.

3 Jesus, Master, I am Thine:
Keep me faithful, keep me near;
Let Thy presence in me shine
All my homeward way to cheer.
Jesus, at Thy feet I fall,
Oh, be Thou my All in all !

PART II.

1 Jesus, Master, whom I serve,
Though so feebly and so ill,
Strengthen hand and heart and nerve
All Thy bidding to fulfil ;
Open Thou mine eyes to see
All the work Thou hast for me.

305 "My heart is fixed, O Go my heart is fixed."

I O HAPPY day, that fixed my choic
On Thee, my Saviour and my Go
Well may this glowing heart rejoice
And tell its raptures all abroad.
2 O happy bond, that seals my vows
To Him who merits all my love!
Let cheerful anthems fill His house
While to that sacred shrine I move.

3 'Tis done! the great transaction done!

I am my Lord's, and He is mine;
He drew me, and I followed on,
Charmed to confess the voice divine

4 Now rest, my long-divided heart, Fixed on this blissful centre, rest: With ashes who would grudge to par When called on angel's bread to feast 5 High heaven, that heard the solem

vow,

That vow renewed shall daily hear, Till in life's latest hour I bow, And bless in death a bond so dear.

Amen

"I am crucified with Christ

306 nevertheless I live; yet no

1, but Christ liveth in me. I OH, the bitter shame and sorrow That a time could ever be, When I let the Saviour's pity Plead in vain, and proudly answered "All of self, and none of Thee!"

[blocks in formation]

THY life was given for me!
Thy blood, O Lord, was shed,
That I might ransomed be
And quickened from the dead;
Thy life was given for me:
What have I given for Thee?

Long years were spent for me
In weariness and woe,
That through eternity
Thy glory I might know;
Long years were spent for me:
Have I spent one for Thee?

Thy Father's home of light,
Thy rainbow-circled throne,
Were left for earthly night,
For wanderings sad and lone;
Yea, all was left for me:
Have I left aught for Thee?

Thou, Lord, hast borne for me
More than my tongue can tell
Of bitterest agony,
To rescue me from hell;
Thou suff'redst all for me:
What have I borne for 'Thee?

5 And Thou hast brought to me
Down from Thy home above
Salvation full and free,
Thy pardon and Thy love;
Great gifts Thou broughtest me:
What have I brought to Thee?

6 Oh, let my life be given,
My years for Thee be spent ;
World-fetters all be riven,
And joy with suffering blent:
Thou gav'st Thyself for me,
I give myself to Thee! Amen.

308

"Now these are Thy servants
and Thy people, whom
Thou hast redeemed by
Thy great power."

I THINE for ever! God of love,
Hear us from Thy throne above;
Thine for ever may we be,
Here and in eternity.

2 Thine for ever! Lord of life,
Shield us through our earthly strife:
Thou the Life, the Truth, the Way,
Guide us to the realms of day.

3 Thine for ever! Oh, how blest
They who find in Thee their rest!
Saviour, Guardian, heavenly Friend,
Oh, defend us to the end!

4 Thine for ever! Saviour, keep
These Thy frail and trembling sheep;
Safe alone beneath Thy care,
Let us all Thy goodness share.

5 Thine for ever! Thou our Guide,
All our wants by Thee supplied,
All our sins by Thee forgiven,
Lead us, Lord, from earth to heaven.
Amen.
