CHAPTER CIV. The great commandment in the law. And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all ?

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: '

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandments greater than these.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. "

And the scribes said unto him, Well, master, thou hast said the truth : for there is one God; and there is none other but he.

CHAPTER CV.
Jesus proposes a question to the Pharisees con-

cerning the Messiah.
While the Pharisees were gathered together,
Jesus asked them,

Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose : son is he? They say unto him, The son of David,

He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord ? saying, • The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

'And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man, from that day forth, ask him any more questions.

. CHAPTER CVI.

Woes denounced against the Pharisees. Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

All, therefore, whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works : for they say, and do not.

For they bind heavy burdens, and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders ; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.,

But all their works they do for to be seen of men.

Then, in the audience of all the people, he said unto his disciples,

Beware of the scribes, which desire 10 walk in long robes, they make broad their

phylacteries,' and enlarge the borders of their garments.

Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

CHAPTER CVII. Two mites cast into the treasury. And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury:

For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God; but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

. CHAPTER CVIII. Jesus foretels the destruction of Jerusalem. And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see whạt manner of stones and what buildings are here!

And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,

As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked hiin privately,

When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

And Jesus answered and said unto thein, Take heed that no man deceive you.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And when ye shall hear of wars and ru.mours of wars, be ye not troubled : for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall

be famines and troubles : these are the beginnings of sorrows."

But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you;

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you :

But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate; but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer :

For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my Name's sake:

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

In your patience possess ye your souls.
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be
