6 None can elude what God decrees;
None can his orders countermand;
His counfels, ever wife and kind,
From age to age unchang'd fhall stand.
7 To this great Lord of heaven and earth
Let our fupreme regards be shown;
Let all the world his awful power
In worship and obedience own.

PSALM X.

The interests of nations in the bands of God.

I BLEST land! whofe fear and fervice fhow.
That God it's chofen ruler is;

And happy they whom God declares
By special favours to be his.

2 For as he spake were all things made,
All fix'd as he commandment gave:
The mightiest nation's wifeft plans
Without him no fuccefs can have.

3 The various tribes and works of men. He fees from his celestial throne:

By him obferv'd, difpos'd, control'd,

Their schemes, and they, are wholly known.

4 No numerous hoft a king can fave,

Nor ftrength, nor skill, nor speed secure:
Not walls nor feas without his aid,
Can make our preservation fure.

5 For thee, O Lord, we wait; to thee
We look for fuccour and defence;
Whate'er befalls us, we will trust
In thee with cheerful confidence.

6 So let thy mercies, Lord, on us
Descend like the refreshing shower,
As all our hope and comfort rest's
Upon thy favour and thy power.

PSALM XI.

The wisdom of the religious character.

1 LET none be envious when he fees
Sinners in flourishing estate;

Or tempted by their short success
Grow bold their crimes to imitate.

2 The grafs no more is fresh and green When once the mower's work is done; And beauteous flowers, within a while, Are wither'd by the fcorching fun.

3 Think

3 Think not mere wealth makes happy men:
The portion of the virtuous poor
Is better far than thriving fin's
Ill-got, or ill-employed store.

4 'Tis wisdom to be doing well
And on God's goodness to rely;
Thus thy best pleasures he'll fecure,
And all thy just desires supply.

5 Commend thy interefts to his care,
In firm dependence on him live;
He'll either grant what thou would'st have,
Or what he knows is better give.

6 The Lord directs a good man's steps,
Delighting to obferve his way;

He is not ruin'd when he falls,
God is his helper and his stay.

7 The world's great ruler, good and just,
Those who are like himself will own;
They shall abide and profper ftill,
When wicked men are overthrown.

8 Mark then the good and perfect man, Mark him that's upright in his ways;

Mercy

Mercy attends him all his life,

And peace and comfort clofe his days. P.

PSALM XII.

God a kind and faithful creator.

1 LET all the nations of the earth
To God their cheerful voices raise;
With gladness worship him and come
Before his face with fongs of praise.

2 God is our Lord; 'twas he alone
Did to us all our being give.
We are the people of his care,
The sheep that on his pastures live.

3 Enter his gates with thankful hearts,
His praises in his courts proclaim,
And, by his powerful love infpir'd,
Delight to bless his facred name.

4 For God is infinitely good,
His mercy is for ever fure;
And every changing age fhall fee
His truth will ftill the fame endure.

PSALM XIII.

PSALM XIII.

The benignity, compaffion, and liberality of God. 1 ALL ye his works, that fubject are In every place to his control,

Blefs ye the Lord; and thou, with them,
Join in his praises, O my soul.

2 It is his grace forgives thy fins;
His hand in fickness makes thee found;
By him prolong'd, thy growing days
By him are with compaffions crown'd.

3 He fatisfies thy mouth with good,
And all thy just defires fupplies :
He makes declining strength return,
And to renewed youth arise.

4 Abundant mercies flow from God,
Love is his nature and his joy :
Slow is his wrath, and tho' he chide,
'Tis not his pleasure to destroy.

5 His anger, in it's rife or stay,
From rules of justice never swerves ;
But when he punishes our faults,
The measure's lefs than fin deferves.
