Made, and preserved, and saved by thee, To thee ourselves we give. 3 Come, Holy Ghost! the Saviour's love 293 MY God, I love thee-not because I hope for heaven thereby; 2 Thou, oh my Jesus, thou didst me For me didst bear the nails and spear, And manifold disgrace; 3 And griefs and torments numberless, And sweat of agony; E'en death itself;-and all for one 4 I love thee, blessed Jesus Christ, 5 E'en so I love thee, and will love, Only because thou art my God, And my eternal King. 294 2 MY God! the covenant of thy love Abides for ever sure; And in its matchless grace I feel My happiness secure. Since thou, the everlasting God, Jesus my Guardian and my Friend, 3 I welcome all thy sovereign will, And when I know not what thou dost, 4 Thy covenant in the darkest gloom 295 YE E trembling souls, dismiss your 2 Fear not the powers of earth, and hell; 3 Fear not the want of outward good; Grant them supplies of daily food, And give them heaven beside. 4 Fear not that he will e'er forsake, 296 shed its quickening beams; REQUENT the day of God returns, And yet how slow devotion burns; 2 Accept our faint attempts to love; 3 Increase, O Lord, our faith and hope, And fit us to ascend, Where the assembly ne'er breaks up, The Sabbath ne'er shall end. Tho' I should walk thro' death's dark My Shepherd's with me there. 5 Amid surrounding foes Thou dost my table spread, 6 The bounties of thy love Shall crown my following days; Nor from thy house will I remove, Nor cease to speak thy praise. On sinners of a mortal race, To call them sons of God. 2 'Tis no surprising thing That we should be unknown; The Jewish world knew not their King, 3 Nor doth it yet appear How great we must be made: But when we see our Saviour here 4 A hope so much divine May trials well endure, EAR Saviour, we are thine, Our names, our hearts, we would reBy everlasting bands: And souls, into thy hands. 2 Accepted for thy sake, And justified by faith, We of thy righteousness partake, 3 To thee we still would cleave, [sign, May purge our souls from sense and sin, If millions tempt us Christ to leave, As Christ the Lord is pure. O let them ne'er prevail. 4 Thy Spirit shall unite Our souls to thee, our head; 5 Death may our souls divide From these abodes of clay; 6 Since Christ and we are one, Why should we doubt or fear? Since he in heaven has fixed his throne, He'll fix his members there. |
