6 Give these, and then thy will be done;
Thus, strengthened with all might,
We, by thy spirit and thy Son,
Shall pray, and pray aright.

The Lord's Prayer.

1 OUR Heavenly Father, hear
The prayer we offer now:

MONTGOMERY.

Thy name be hallowed far and near;
To thee all nations bow.

2 Thy kingdom come; thy will
Ön earth be done in love,
As saints and seraphim fulfil
Thy perfect law above.

3 Our daily bread supply,

While by thy word we live;
The guilt of our iniquity
Forgive as we forgive.

4 From dark temptation's power
Our feeble hearts defend;
Deliver in the evil hour,
And guide us to the end.

5 Thine, then, for ever be
Glory and power divine;
The sceptre, throne, and majesty
Of heaven and earth are thine.

The Day of Rest.

1 THIS day let grateful praise ascend To thee, our Father and our Friend, Thee, Author of this holy light,

M. W. HALE.

Thee, throned in boundless power and might.

2 O, let the sacred hours be given

To truth, to duty, and to heaven;

While trusting faith and holy love
Rise fervent to thy throne above.
3 Grant that our earthly Sabbaths be
But dawnings of eternity,

44.

To shadow forth the glorious rest,
The heavenly quiet, of the blest.

Homage and Devotion.

1 WITH sacred joy we lift our eyes
To those bright realms above,
That glorious temple in the skies,
Where dwells eternal love.

2 Before the gracious throne we bow
Of heaven's Almighty King;
Here we present the solemn vow,
And hymns of praise we sing.

3 O Lord, while in thy house we kneel
With trust and holy fear,

Thy mercy and thy truth reveal,
And lend a gracious ear.

4 With fervor teach our hearts to pray,
And tune our lips to sing;

45.

Nor from thy presence cast away
The sacrifice we bring.

Devout Worship of God.

JERVIS.

SIR J. E. SMITH.

1 PRAISE waits in Zion, Lord, for thee;
Thy saints adore thy holy name;
Thy creatures bend th' obedient knee,
And, humbly, thy protection claim.

2 Thy hand has raised us from the dust;
The breath of life thy spirit gave ;
Where, but in thee, can mortals trust?
Who, but our God, has power to save?

3 Eternal Source of truth and light,
To thee we look, on thee we call ;
Lord, we are nothing in thy sight,

But thou to us art all in all.

4 Still may thy children in thy word
Their common trust and refuge see;
O, bind us to each other, Lord,
By one great tie,

the love of thee.

5 So shall our sun of hope arise,
With brighter still and brighter ray,
Till thou shalt bless our longing eyes
With beams of everlasting day.

Engagedness in Devotion.

1 LORD, before thy presence come,
Bow we down with holy fear;
Call our erring footsteps home,

Let us feel that thou art near.

J. TAYLOR.

2 Wandering thoughts and languid powers
Come not where devotion kneels ;
Let the soul expand her stores,
Glowing with the joy she feels.
3 At the portals of thine house,

47.

We resign our earth-born cares :
Nobler thoughts our souls engross,
Songs of praise and fervent prayers.

Truth and Love.

FROTHINGHAM.

1 O GOD, whose presence glows in all Within, around us, and above!

Thy word we bless, thy name we call,

Whose word is truth, whose name is love.

2 That truth be with the heart believed Of all who seek this sacred place;

With power proclaimed, in peace received, Our spirit's light, thy spirit's grace. 3 That love its holy influence pour,

To keep us meek and make us free,
And throw its binding blessings more
Round each with all, and all with thee.
4 Send down its angel to our side, -

Send in its calm upon the breast;
For we would know no other guide,
And we can need no other rest.

Longing for the House of God.
1 LORD of the worlds above!
How pleasant and how fair
The dwellings of thy love,
Thine earthly temples, are!

To thine abode
My heart aspires,

WATTS.

With warm desires
God.

2 O happy souls, who pray

Where God appoints to hear!
O happy men, who pay

Their constant service there!

They praise thee still;

And happy they

Who love the way

To Zion's hill.

3 They go from strength to strength,
Through this dark vale of tears,

Till each arrives at length,

Till each in heaven appears :

O glorious seat,

Shall thither bring

When God, our King,

Our willing feet.

The Fount of Blessing.

1 FAR from mortal cares retreating,
Sordid hopes, and vain desires,

Here, our willing footsteps meeting,
Every heart to heaven aspires.
2 From the fount of glory beaming,
Light celestial cheers our eyes,
Mercy from above proclaiming,
Peace and pardon from the skies.
3 Who may share this great salvation?
Every pure and humble mind,
Every kindred, tongue, and nation,
From the stains of guilt refined.
4 Blessings all around bestowing,
God withholds his care from none,
Grace and mercy ever flowing
From the fountain of his throne.

Introduction to Evening Worship.

1 ON the first Christian Sabbath eve, When his disciples met

O'er his lost fellowship to grieve,

Nor knew the Scripture yet,

MONTGOMERY.

2 Lo! in their midst his form was seen,
The form in which he died;

Their Master's marred and wounded mien,
His hands, his feet, his side.

3 Then were they glad their Lord to know,
And hailed him yet with fear;
Jesus, again thy presence show ;
Meet thy disciples here.

4 Be in our midst; let faith rejoice
Our risen Lord to view,

And make our spirits hear thy voice
Say, "Peace be unto you!"

5 And while with thee, in social hours,
We commune through thy word,
