8 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the fame is Zoar) and they Joyned battel with them in the vale of Siddim; 9 With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellafar: four kings with five.

10 And the vale of Siddim was full of lime pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah Aed, and fell there: and they that remained Sed to the mountain.

11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their viduals, and went their way.

12 And they took Lot Abrams brothers fon who dwelt in Sodom) and his goods, and departed.

16 And he brought back all the goods, and alfo brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women alfo, and the people.

17 And the king of Sodom went out to aneer Him (after his return from the flaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him) at the valley of Shaveh, which is the kings dale.

18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine and he was the priest of the most high God.

19 And he bleed him and faid, Bleffed be Abram of the most high God possessour of hea ven and earth:

20 And bleffed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

21 And the king of Sodom faid unto Abram, Give me the perfons, and take the goods to thy Self.

22 And Abram faid to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the moft high God, the poffeffour of heaven and earth,

After unto Abrant in a vision, fay ing Fear not, Abram: I am thy field and thy exceeding great reward.

2 And Abram faid, Lord GoD,what wilt thou give me, feeing I go childlefs, and the steward of my houfe is this Eliezer of Damafcus!

3 And Abram faid, Behold, to me thou hafe given no feed and lo, one born in my house Is mine heir.

4 And behold,the word of the LORD came unto him,faying, This fhall not be thine heir, but he that hall come forth out of thine own bowels fhall be thine heir

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and faid, Look now toward heaven, and tell the ftars, if rhou be able to number them: And he faid unto him, So fhall thy feed be.

6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

7 And he faid unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ilr of the Caldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

And he faid, Lord GOD, whereby fhall I know that I fhall inherit it?

9 And he faid unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old,and a the-goat,of three years old,and a ram of three years old,and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midft, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcafes, Abram drove them away.

12 And when the fun was going down, a deep fleep fell upon Abram; and le,an horrour of great darkness fell upon him.

13 And he faid unto Abram, Know of a furety that thy feed fhail be a ftranger in a land tat is not theirs, and fhall ferve them, and they shall affli& them four hundred years.

14 And alfo that nation whom they fhall ferve, will I judge and afterward that they come out with great fubftance.

15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

15 But in the fourth generation they hall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

17 And it came to pass, that when the fun went down and it was dark, behold a fmoking furnace, and a burning lamp that paffed between those pieces.

18 In that fame day the LORD made a covenint with Abram, faying, Unto thy feed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river the river Fuphrates:

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

20 And the Hittites,and the Perizzites,and the Rephaims,

21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgafhites, and the Jebufites.

CHAP. XVI.

1 Sarai being barren, giveth Hagarto Abram. 6 Hagar being afflined for defpifing ber mitrels, runneth away; 9 an angel lend. eth her back to fubmit ber felf, 11 and telletb her of her child. 15 Ishmael is born. Ow Sarai Abrams wife bare him no chil dren: and he had an hand-maid, an E24 Save onely that which the young men gyptian, whofe name m.is Hagar.

2 And Sarai faid unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her and Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

3 And Sarai Abrams wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

4 And he went in unto Hagar, and the conceived: And when the faw that fhe had conceived, her mistress was defpifed in her eyes.

5 And Sarai faid unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bofom; and when the faw that the bad conceived, I was defpifed in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

6 Rut Abram faid unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleafeth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her,

12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every mans hand again t him: and he shall dwell in the prefence

of all his brethren.

13 And the called the name of the LORD that (pake unto her, Thou God feeft me: for The faid, Have I alfo here looked after him that feeth me?

14 Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadefh and Bered.

15 And Hagar bare Abram a fon and Abram called his fons name, which Hagar bare, Ifmael.

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and faid unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenint between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, faying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations

12 And he thit is eight days old fill be circumcifed among you, every man-child in your generations, he that is born in the houfe, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy feed.

13 He that is born in thy houfe,and he that is bought with thy money, muft needs be circumciled and my covenant thall be in your Aeth for an everlafting covenant.

19 And God faid, Sarah tlw wife fhall bear thee a fon indeed; and thou shalt call his name Ifaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlating covenant, and with his

feed after him.

20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee : Behold, I have bleffed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly: twelve princes fhall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

21 But my covenant will I eftablifh with Ifaac, whom Sarah fhall bear unto thee at this fer time in the next year.

22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

23 And Abraham took Ifhmael his fon, and all that were born in his houfe, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abrahams house; and circumcifed the Hefh of their fore-fkin, in the felf-fame day, as God had faid unto him.

24 And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcifed in the flesh of his fore-fkin.

25 And Ifhmiel his fon was thirteen years old when he was circumcifed in the flesh of his fore-skin.

25 In the felf-fame day was Abraham circumcifed, and Ishmael his fon.

27 And all the men of his house, born in the houfe, and bought with money of the Aranger, were circumcifed with him.

CHAP. XVIII.

1 Abram entertaineth three angels. 9 Sarah is rebroved for laughing at the Strange promife. 17 The destruction of Sodom is revealed to Abraham. 23 Abraham maketh inte ceffion for the men thereof.

7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good,and gave it unto a young man; and he hafted to dreis it.

8 And he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had dreffed, and fet it before them; and he flood by them under the tree, and they

did eat.

9 And they faid unto him, Where is sarah ahy wife? And he faid, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he faid, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and lo,Sarah thy wife fhall have a fon. And Sarah heard it in the tent-door, which rous behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age: and it ceafed to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within her felf, faying, After I am waxed old, shall I have pleaalfo!

ure, my lord being old laid unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, faying, Shall I of afurety bear a child, which am old!

14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed will I return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah fhall have a fon.

15 Then Sarah denied, faying, I laughed nor: for fhe was afraid. And he faid, Nay, but thou didft laugh.

16 And the men rofe up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with em to bring them on the way.

17 And the LORD faid, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

18 Seeing that Abraham fhall furely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth fhall be bleffed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his houthold after him, and they fhall keep the way of the LORD, to do ju ftice and judgment; that the LORD may bring apon Abraham that which he hath Spoken of him.

20 And the LORD faid, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because Their fin is very grievous;

21 I will go down now, and fee whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I

will know.

22 And the men turned their faces from Thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham food yet before the LORD.

23 And Abraham drew near, and faid,Wilt thou alfo destroy the righteous with the wicked?

24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou alfo deftroy, and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to lay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous fhould be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

25 And the LORD faid, If I find in Sodom ffry righteous within the city, then I willfpare all the place for their fakes.

27 And Abraham anfwered and faid, Behold now, I have taken upon me to fpeak unto the Lord which am but duft and afhes.

28 Teradventure there fhall lack five of the tv righteous: wilt thou deftroy all the city

for lack of five! And he faid, If I find there fourty and five, I will not destroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again, and faid, Peradventure there shall be fourty found there. And he faid, I will not do it for fourties fake.

30 And he faid unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will fpeak: Peradventure there fhall thirty be found there. And he faid, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he faid,Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: l'eradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not deftroy it for twenties fake.

32 And he faid, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten fhall be found there. And he faid, I will not destroy it for tens fake.

33 And the LORD went his way, affoon as he had left communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned unto his place.

CHAP. XIX.

1 Lot entertaineth two angels. 4 The vicious Sodomites are stricken with blindness. 12 Lot is fent for Safety into the mountain. 18 He obtainetb leave to go into Zoar. 24 Sodom and Gomorrah are deftroyed. 26 Lots wire is a pillar of salt. 30Lot dwelleth in a cave. 31 The incestuous original of Moab and Am

Nd there came to

2 And he faid, Behold now my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your fervants houfe, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rife up early, and go on your ways. And they faid, Nay, but we will abide in the street an night.

3 And he preffed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entred into his houfe: and he made them a feat, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did cat.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compaffed the houfe round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter.

5 And they called unto Lot, and faid unto him,Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and fhut the door after him,

7 And faid, I pray you, brethren, do not fo wickedly.

8 Behold now, I have two daughters which. have not known man; let me, I pray you,bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as s good in your eyes: only unto thefe men do no thing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

9 And they faid, Stand back. And they faid again, This one fellow came in to fojourn, and he will needs be a judge: Now will we deal worfe with thee, then with them. And they preffed fore upon the man, even Lot,and came near to break the door.

10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut ro the door.

11 And they fmote the men that were at the door of the houfe with blindnefs, both fmall and great: fo that they wearied themfcives to find the door.

12 And the men faid unto Lot, Haft thou here any befides fon in law, and thy fons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou haft in the city, bring them out of this place.

13 For we will deftroy this place: becaufe the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD hath fent us to destroy it.

14 And Lot went out, and fpake unto his fons in law, which married his daughters, and

19 Behold now,thy fervant hath found grace in thy fight,and thou haft magnified thy mercy, which thou haft fhewed unto me in faving my life and I cannot escape to the mountain, left fome evil take me, and I die.

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh let me efcape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my fout fhall live.

21 And he faid unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing alfo, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou haft spoken.

22 Hafte thee, efcape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The fun was rifen upon the earth when Lot entred into Zoar.

24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven.

25 And he overthrew thofe cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and the became a pillar of falt.

27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning, to the place where he flood before the

28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the fmoke of the countrey went up as the fmoke of a furnace.

29 And it came to pafs, when God deftroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembred Abraham, and fent Lot out of the midit of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the

34 And it came to pafs on the morrow, that the Art-born faid unto the younger, Behold, I lay yefternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night alfo; and go thou in and lie with him, that we may preferve feed of our father.

35 And they made their father drink wine that night alfo and the younger arofe,andlay with him; and he perceived not when the lay down, nor when the arofe.

25 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

Nd Abraham journeyed from thence toward the fouth-countrey, and dwelled between Kadeth and Shur,and fojourned in Gerar 2 And Abraham faid of Sarah his wife, She is my fifter: And Abimelech king of Gerar

7 Now therefore reftore the man bis wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou reftore bernot, know thou that thou shalt farety die, thou and all that are thine.

8 Therefore Abimelech rofe early in the morning,and called all his fervants, and told all thefe things in their ears and the men were fore afraid.

9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and faid unto him, What halt thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou haft brought on me and on my kingdom a great fin? thou haft done deeds unto me that ought not to be

16 And unto Sarah he faid,Behold, I have gi ven thy brother a thousand pieces of filver: Be hold,he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee,and with all other: thus fhe was reproved.

17 So Abraham prayed unto God and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid fervants; and they bare children.

18 For the LORD had faft clofed up all the wombs of the houfe of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abrahams wife.

CHAP. XXI.

1 Ifaac is born: 4 be is errcurcifed. 6 Sarabs joy.9 Hagar ana Ismael are caft forth. 15 Haar

7 And the faid, who would have faid unto Abraham,that Sarah fhould have given children fuck? forl have born bim a fon in his old age. 8 And the child grew, and was weaned and Abraham made a great feast, the fame day that Ifaac was weaned.

9 And Sarah faw the fon of Hagar the Egyptian, which the had born unto Abraham, mocking.

10 Wherefore the faid unto Abraham, Ca out this bond-woman,and her fon : for the fon of this bond-woman shall not be heir with my fon, even with Ifaac.

11 And the thing was very grievous in A

14 And Abraham rofe up early in the morn ing,and took bread, and a bottle of water,and gave it unto Hagar (putting it on her shoulder) and the child, and fent her away: and the departed, and wandred in the wilderness of Beer-fheba,

15 And the water was fpent in the bottle, and the caft the child under one of the fhrubs. 16 And the went, and fat her down over again bim, a good way off, as it were a bowmhet: for the faid, Let me not fee the death of the child. And the fat over against him,and lift up her voice, and wept.

17 And God heard the voice of the lad: and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven,and faid unto her, What aileth thee,Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

18 Arife, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand: for I will make him a great nation. 19 And God opened her eyes, and the faw a well of water and fhe went and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

20 And God was with the lad, and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an

archer.

21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pafs at that time, that Abimelech, and Phichol the chief captain of his hoft fpake unto Abraham, faying, God is with thee in all that thou doeft.

23 Now therefore fwear unto me here by God, that thou wilt not deal falfly with me, nor with my fon, nor with my fons fon: but according to the kindnefs that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou haft fojourned.

24 And Abraham faid, I wil fwear.

25 And Abraham reproved Abimelech becaufe of a well of water, which Abimelechs

26 And Abimelech faid, I wot not who hatha
done this thing: neither didit thou tell me,
neither yet heard I of it but to day.

27 And Abraham took heep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech and both of them made a covenant.

28 And Abraham fet feven ew-lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 And Abimelech faid unto Abraham, What mean thefe feven ew-lambs, which thou haft fet by themselves?

30 And he faid, For thefe feven ew-lambs halt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witnefs unto me, that I have digged this well.

31 Wherefore he called that place Beer-the

32 Thus they made a covenant at Beer-hethen Abimelech rofe up, and Fhichol the chief captain of his hoft, and they returned into the land of the l'hiliftines.

33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beerfheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

34 And Abraham fojourned in the Philiftines and many days.

CHA P. XXII.

1 Abraham is tempted to offer Ifaac. 3 He giveth proof of his faith and obedience. 11 The angel stayeth bim. 13 Isaac is exchanged with a ram. 14 The place is called Febovah-jreb. 15 Abraham is blessed again. 20 Thegeneration of Nabor unto Rebekah.

Nd it

Add came to pafs after these things, that him, Abraham. And he faid,Behold,here I am.

And he faid, Take now thy fon, thine onely fon Ifaac, whom thou loveft,and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rofe up early in the morn ing,and fadled his afs, and took two of his young men with him,and Ifaac his fon; and clave the wood for the burnt-offering, and rofe up,and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lift up his eyes, and faw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham faid unto his young men, Abide you here with the afs; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship,and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burntoffering, and laid it upon Ifaac his fon; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife: and they went both of them together.

7 And Ifaac fpake unto Abraham his father, and faid, My father: and he faid,Here am I,my fon. And he faid,Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?

8 And Abraham faid, My fon, God will provide himfelf a lamb for a burnt-offering: fo they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of, and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order; and bound Ifaac his fon, and laid him on the altar upon the wood

10 And Abraham ftretched forth his hand, and took the knife to Aay his fon..

11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and faid, Abraham, Abraham. And he faid, Here am I.

12 And he faid, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him for now I know that thou fearest God, feeing thou haft not withheld thy fon,thine onely fon from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, behind bim a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: And Abraham went and took the mm, and offered him up for a
