firft the Blade, then the Ear, after that the full Corn in the Ear. But, when the fruit ir brought forth, immediately he puts in the fickle, becaule the Harvest is come. Another Parable He put forth to them, faying, The Kingdom of Heaven is like a Man who fow'd good feed in his field: But, while men flept, his enemy came and fow'd upon it tares among the wheat, and went his way. But, when the blade was fprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appear'd the tares alfo. So, the Servants of the Houtholder came and faid to him, Sir, did you not fow good feed in your field? from whence then has it tares? He faid to them, The enemy has done this. The Servants faid to him, Will you that we go and gather them up? But he faid no, leaft perhaps while you gather up the tares, you root up alfo the wheat with them. Suffer both to grow till the Harveft: and in the time of Harveft, I will fay to the Reapers, Gather up firft the tares and bind them in bundles to burn; but the Wheat gather into my Barn.

Refp. Patience, my Soul! forbear thy Neighbours infirmities, forbear their errors; unless thy place or prudent charity oblige thee to correct them. 'Tis forrow enough to be miferable hereafter; 'tis joy enough to be happy for ever, Gain them if thou canst by love and meekneßi but ftrive not rafhly to root them out, Least thou endanger the innocent: nor envionfly grudge their share in this world, least thou ruine thy felf. *'Tis forrowLesson 99.

Another Parable He propos'd to them, faying, To what shall we liken the King dom of God, and to what fimilitude fhall we compare it: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of Mustard-feed, which a man took and fow'd in his field: which, when it is fown, is indeed lefs then all the feeds that are in the Earthi but, when it is grown, becomes great er then all herbs, and is made a tree, and fhoots out great branches, fo that the Birds of the Air come and lodge in the branches thereof. Another Parable spake He to them, The Kingdom of Heaven is like to Leaven, which a Woman took and hid in three measures of Meal, till the whole

the whole was leavened. All these things fpake JESUS to the multitude in Parables: and with many fuch Parables fpake He the Word to them, as they were able to hear it: But, without a Parable spake He not to them. That it might be fulfilled which was fpoken by the Prophet, faying, I will open my mouth in Parables; I will utter things which have been kept fecret from the foundation of the World. But, when they were alone, He expounded all things to His Dif ciples. Refp. Cultivate, O Lord, the feed Thou haft foren in our hearts; that our Faith may quicken into Love, and both together Shoot forth into fruitful works; and all our weary thoughts come and reft themfelves under the shadow of their branches. *For, by Thy Gracious influence, every little grain grows up into a Tree; and. every fmall endeavour is bleft with a great increafe. Then JESUS having difmift the Multitude, went into the houfe; and His Disciples came to Him, faying, Declare to us the Parable of the Tares of the field. Who, answering, faid to them, He that fows the good feed is the Son of Man; the Field is the World; the good feed are the Children of the Kingdom; but the Tares are the Children of the wicked one; the enemy that fow'd them is the Devil; the Harveft is the end of the World; and the Reapers are the Angels As therefore the Tares are gather'd and burnt in the fire; fo fhall it be in the end of the World. The Son of Man fhall fend forth His Angels, and they shall gather out of His Kingdom all Scandals, and those that work iniquity; and fhall caft them into a furnace of Fire; there fhall be weeping and gnashing of Teeth, Then fhall the juft fhine as the Sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

follow Thy Commands. So that we fcape that dark unquenchable Fire, and fine with Thee in Thy Kingdom for ever. Send forth Thy Holy Angels, O Glorious JESU! fend them with speed in relief of Thy Children: command them to gather all fcandals out of the Church, and reduce to Thy Obedience the workers of iniquity. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treafure hid in a field, which he that found cover'd, and for joy thereof goes and fells all he has, and buys that held. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a Merchant feeking good Pearls; and having found one of great price, he went and fold all that he had and bought it. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a Net caft into the Sea, and gathering together all kind of Fishes: Which, being full, they drew to Shore, and fat down, and chofe the good into Veffels, but caft the bad away. So fhall it be at the end of the World; the Angels fhall go forth and fever the wicked from among the juft, and caft them into the furnace of Fire; there fhall be weeping
