7 Though faint my pray'rs, and cold my love, My steadfast hope shall not remove While Jesus intercedes above.

8 Against me earth and hell combine; But on my side is pow'r divine; Jesus is all, and he is mine.

296 Hymn.

WHY

C. M.

HY should the children of a King
Go mourning all their days?
Great Comforter! descend, and bring
Some token of thy grace.

2 Dost thou not dwell in all the saints,
And seal them heirs of heav'n ?
When wilt thou banish my complaints,
And shew my sins forgiv'n?

3 Assure my conscience of her part
In the Redeemer's blood;

And bear thy witness with my heart,
That I am born of God.

297 Hymn.

1

L. M.

WITH all my pow'rs of heart and tongue

I'll praise my Maker in my song;

I'll sing thy truth and mercy, Lord!
I'll sing the wonders of thy word.

2 Amidst a thousand snares I stand,
Upheld and guarded by thy hand;
Thy words my fainting soul revive
And keep my dying faith alive.

3 Grace will complete what grace begins-
To save from sorrows or from sins;
The work that wisdom undertakes
Eternal mercy ne'er forsakes.

298 Hymn.

1

C. M.

WITH joy we meditate the grace

Of our High Priest above;

His heart o'erflows with tenderness

And everlasting love.

2 Touch'd with a sympathy within,
He knows our feeble frame;
He knows what sore temptations mean,
For he has felt the same.

3 He, who in feeble flesh below,
Pour'd out strong cries and tears,
Still sympathizes in the woe
Which ev'ry member bears.

4 He'll never quench the smoking flax,
But raise it to a flame;

The bruised reed he never breaks,
Nor scorns the meanest name.
5 Then let our humble faith address
His mercy and his pow'r;
We shall obtain deliv'ring grace
In each distressing hour.

299 Hymn.

YE

C. M.

E heav'ns, send forth your song of praise!
Earth, raise your voice below!

Let hills and vales in gladness rise,
And joy through nature flow.

2 Behold, how gracious is our God!
Hear the consoling strains

In which he cheers our drooping hearts
And mitigates our pains.

3 Can the fond mother e'er forget

The infant whom she bore?
And can its plaintive cries e'er fail
To move compassion more ?

4 She

may forget,-nature
may fail
A parent's heart to move,—
But Zion on my heart shall dwell
In everlasting love.

5 Full in my sight, upon my hands
I have her name engrav'd;

My hands shall build her ruin'd walls,
And Israel all be sav'd.

300 Hymn.

8-7's.

ION's King shall reign victorious;

ZION's

sway;
He will make his kingdom glorious;
He shall reign in endless day.
2 Nations, now from God estrangèd,
Then shall see a glorious light;
Night to day shall then be changed;
Heaven shall triumph in the sight.
3 Then shall Israel, long dispersed,

Mourning seek the Lord their God,
Look on him whom once they pierced,
Own and kiss the chast'ning rod.
4 Mighty King, thine arm revealing,
Now thy glorious cause maintain;
Bring the nations help and healing,
Make them subject to thy reign!

The Sanctus.

SUNG AFTER THE LITANY; THE PEOPLE STANDING.

HOLY, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts; heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High. Amen.

The End.

ALL people hearken and give ear
All people that on earth do dwell (O. V.)
Arise, O Lord, and now possess
As pants the hart for cooling streams
Attend, O earth, whilst I declare
Behold the man that did refuse
Bless God, ye servants, that attend
Bless'd is the man whom thou, O Lord
Do not, O God, refrain thy tongue
Do thou bring back the remnant, Lord

Do thou to thy most just commands (Part 2)
Earth heard when God the judgment gave
Erect your heads, eternal gates

For thee, O God, our constant praise
From lowest depths of woe

Give ear, thou Judge of all the earth
Give to the Lord, ye potentates
God is our refuge in distress
God's city shall full well endure
God's faithful promise I shall praise
Had not the Lord let Israel own
Happy the man whose tender care
Have mercy, Lord, on me

He that has God his guardian made
Hear, O my people; to my law

He's bless'd whose sins have pardon gain'd
His uncontroll'd dominion shall

How bless'd is he who ne'er consents

How shall the young preserve their ways (Part 1)

119

How various, Lord, thy works are found

104

In thee I put my steadfast trust

I waited meekly for the Lord

Jehovah reigns; let all the earth
Jehovah reigns; let, therefore, all
Let all the lands, with shouts of joy
Let me with light and truth be bless'd
Lord, hear the voice of my complaint
Lord, hear the voice of my complaint
Lord, hear my cry, regard my pray'r
Lord, hear my pray'r, and to my cry
Lord, let me know my term of days
Lord, not to us, we claim no share
Lord, save me for thy glorious name
Lord, what is man that thou shouldst love
Mercy, judgment, now my tongue
My cause with my opposers, Lord
My God, my God, why leav'st thou me

My soul on God for help relies
My soul, inspired with sacred love..
My soul shall bless the gracious Lord
My soul, with grateful thoughts of love
No change of times shall ever shock
Now to his courts, ye saints. of his..
O all ye people, clap your hands
O God, my gracious God, to thee
O God, my heart is fix'd, 'tis bent
O God, my heart is fully bent
O God of hosts, the mighty Lord
O God, whose former mercies make
O Israel's Father, King, and God

O Israel's Shepherd, Joseph's Guide
O Lord, give to thy people health
O Lord, I am not proud of heart
O Lord, our fathers oft have told

O Lord, that art my righteous Judge

O Lord, the Saviour and defence
O Lord, thou art my sure defence
O Lord, to my relief draw near

O thou, to whom all creatures bow..
Observe the perfect man with care..
Oft from my youth may Israel say
Oh! come loud anthems let us sing..
Oh! grant us still thy love to share
Oh! let me in th' accepted hour
Oh! praise the Lord, and thou, my soul
Oh! praise the Lord, for he is good
Oh! praise the Lord in that bless'd place
Oh! praise the Lord with hymns of joy
Oh! praise the Lord with one consent

Oh! render thanks to God above
Oh! 'twas a joyful sound to hear
On thee I wait; 'tis on thy strength
On thee, my God, I undismay'd
Our God, who hears the suff'ring poor
Praise ye the Lord, our God to praise
Prove me, O God, I thee desire
Rebuk'd, O Lord, chastis'd by thee
Rise, mightiest King, to judgment rise
Since heretofore I ne'er in vain
Since I have plac'd my trust in God
Since of thy goodness all partake
Sing to the Lord a new-made song
Sing to the Lord a new-made song
The heav'ns declare thy glory, Lord
The King, O Lord, with songs of praise
The Lord hath spoke, the mighty God
