Accept their whispered praises,
Nor slight their broken prayer.

Go on thou heir of glory!
No ill can thee betide;
The prize is full before thee,
Thy guardian at thy side.
Who trust in mortal forces,
Their weakness soon shall see,

But God a sure resource is,
And God shall succour thee.

PSALM 23.

THE Lord is my shepherd, no want shall I know, I feed in green pastures, safe-folded I rest;

He leadeth my soul, where the still waters flow, Restores me, when wandering, redeems, when opprest.

Through the valley, and shadow of death, though I

stray,

;

Since Thou art my guardian, no evil I fear
Thy rod shall defend me, Thy staff be my stay,
No harm can befall, with my comforter near.

In the midst of affliction, my table is spread,
With blessings unmeasured my cup runneth o'er,
With perfume, and oil Thou anointest my head,
O! what shall I ask of Thy Providence more.

Let goodness, and mercy, my bountiful God,
Still follow my steps, 'till I meet Thee above;
I seek, by the path, which my forefathers trod,
Through the land of their sojourn,--Thy kingdom
of love.

PSALM 23.

Second Version.

THE Lord himself, the mighty Lord,
Vouchsafes to be my guide,
The shepherd, by whose loving care,
My wants are all supplied.

In pastures green, He makes me feed,
And by the meadow side,
Where fresh springs sparkle all the year,
And living waters glide.

I pass the gloomy vale of death,

From fear, and danger free,
Thy friendly rod, and staff are there,
To guide, and succour me.

My table hast Thou richly spread,
Despite of all my foes,

My head with oil Thou dost anoint,
Through Thee my cup o'erflows.

And Thou wilt multiply Thy grace,

Thro' all my days to come;

Until I rise to see Thy face,
And find with Thee my home.

PSALM 24.

THE spacious earth is ail the Lord's,
The Lord's its fulness is,
The world, and its inhabitants,
By sovereign right are His.

For He hath laid its secret place
Beneath the weltering seas,

And 'mid the springs of ocean reared
Its ancient fastnesses.

Who shall ascend the mount of God?
Who fearless rise on high;
And in the Holy place stand up
Beneath th' all-seeing eye.

The pure of hand, the stainless heart,
Which no ill dreams defile;

The soul, not lifted up in lies,

The tongue unsworn in guile.

He in the blessing of the Lord,
Shall ask, and have his part;
Such is God's chosen heritage,
Men after His own heart.

PSALM 24.

Second Version.

LIFT up your heads, eternal gates

Unfold to entertain,

The King of Glory! lo! He comes With all His shining train!

Who is the King of Glory, who?
The Lord, for strength renowned :
With everlasting victory,

And endless praises crowned.

Lift up your heads, eternal gates,
Unfold to entertain,

The King of Glory! lo! He comes,
O'er Heaven, and earth, to reign.

Who is the King of Glory, who?
The Lord for strength renowned,

Of glory, He alone is King,
Who is with glory crowned.

PSALM 24.

Third Version.

YE gates, and everlasting doors,
Lift up your heads on high;
That so the King of Glory may
Come in triumphantly.

Who is the King of Glory, who?

The mighty Lord is He, Clothed with the spoils of all His foes; And crowned with victory.

Ye gates, and everlasting doors,

Lift up yourselves on high, That so the King of Glory may Come in triumphantly.

Who is this King of Glory, who,
Dare claim such high degree?
The Lord who rules the worlds, alone,
May King of Glory be.

PSALM 25.

THOU, Lord, my refuge art,
To Thee I lift my cries,
Give me not over to the will
Of these mine enemies.

Enlarge my struggling heart
To tread life's narrow way,
For Thou alone my solace art,
I wait on Thee all day.

Recall, Oh Lord, to mind

Thy mercies manifold,

Thy truth, and loving kindnesses,
Which ever were of old.

Forgive Thou all my sin,
And early trespass, Lord,
Nor the offences of my youth
Within Thy book record.

Oh, for Thy goodness sake,

My God, think Thou on me,

Nor from Thy kind remembrance blot
Him, who still trusts in Thee.
