PSALM 84.

Fourth Version.

How amiable, how fair,

O Lord of Hosts, to me,
Thy tabernacles are!

My flesh cries out for Thee:

My heart, and soul, with heavenward fire To Thee, the living God, aspire.

Thrice blessed they, who dwell
Within Thine House, my God,
Where daily praises swell,

And still the floor is trod

By those, who in Thy presence bow;
By those, whose King and God art Thou.

Lord God of Hosts, give ear,

A gracious auswer yield,

Oh, God of Jacob, hear,

Behold, oh God, our shield;

Look on Thine own anointed One,
And save through Thy beloved Son.

God is a sun of light,

Glory, and grace to shed:
God is a shield of might,

To guard the faithful head;

Oh, Lord of Hosts, how happy he,

The man, who puts his trust in Thee!

PSALM 89.

ANCIENT of mercies, as of days,
To Thee I lift my song,

My joy shall be to speak Thy praise,
And bless Thee, my life long.

Set

up above the starry sky, Thy promise shall endure, 'Till judgement end in victory: From age to age more sure.

Thine is the earth, and Thine the skies,
Created at Thy will;

The waves at Thy command arise,
At Thy command are still.

Oh happy that true flock of Thine,
On whom the loving light

Of Thy sweet countenance shall shine,
To cheer them day, and night!

Thou, Lord, wilt go before their face,
Yea; and from youth to age,
Thy loving kindness will embrace
Thy chosen heritage.

PSALM 90.

THOU art, Thou wert, oh Lord, Long ere the mountains had their birth,

Long ere at Thy creating word
Up rose this breathing earth.

Man, like a summer flower,
Lives through his little varied day,
The fragile creature of an hour,
That blossoms to decay.

This truth oh make us see!
Oh bid us, Lord, be timely wise,
And seek a Saviour, seek from Thee
The life, that never dies.

Forgive us every sin!

Fill our dark souls with joy, and light, And let that glorious day begin, Which never ends in night.

PSALM 90.

Second Version.

LORD, Thou hast been Thy people's rest
Through all their generations;
Their refuge, when by dangers prest,
Their hope in tribulations;

Thou, ere the mountains had their birth,
Or ever Thou had'st formed the earth,
Art God from everlasting.

The sons of men return to clay,

When Thou the word hast spoken,

As with a torrent borne away;
Gone, like a dream when broken.
A thousand years are, in Thy sight,
But as a watch amid the night,
Or yesterday departed.

At morn, we flourish like the grass,
With dew, and sunbeams lighted,
But, ere the cool of evening pass,
The rich array is blighted;
Thus do Thy chastisements consume
Youth's tender leaf, and beauty's bloom,
We fade at Thy displeasure.

Lord, teach us so to mark our days,
That we may prize them duly :
So guide our feet in Wisdom's ways,
That we may love Thee truly :
Return, oh Lord, our grief behold,
And with Thy goodness, as of old,
Oh satisfy us early.

PSALM 90.

Third Version.

Oн God of glory, God of grace,
From age to age our dwelling-place,
Before Thy throne we bow;
Ere the vast mountains rose of yore,

When they, and earth shall be no more, The same, oh Lord, art Thou.

Man's generations rise, and pass,
Like morning flowers, or summer grass,
The creatures of Thy breath,

Our life runs onward, like a stream,
We shine, and vanish, as a dream,
The prey of sin, and death.

Unnumbered ills beset our path,

Our days are darkened 'neath Thy wrath,
And yet how heedless we!

Oh! touch with grace each erring heart,
True wisdom to each soul impart,
And win us all to Thee.

We sink, we perish, 'neath Thy frown,
Oh! send Thy healing mercy down,
To light our coming years,
Then be they many, be they few,

Thy grace will bear us safely through,
Beyond the reach of tears.

PSALM 91.

HE, that has God his refuge made,
Shall, under the Almighty's shade,
In undisturbed repose abide;
Thus to my soul of Him I'll say,
