1888. The purpose of this work is to protest against what seems to the author to be cruel and unusual punishment which Shakespeare is meeting at the hands of esthetic critics. These esthetes have fallen to counting his lines, his syllables and endings; from this numeration to conceiving a certain algebra and from this algebra demonstrating the period and chronology of each work.
