HYMN 226.

"He knoweth our frame."

1 LORD, we adore thy wondrous name, And make that name our trust, Which rais'd at first this curious frame, From mean and lifeless dust.

Awhile these frail machines endure,
The fabric of a day;

Then know their vital powers no more,
But moulder back to clay.

Yet Lord, whate'er is felt or fear'd,
This thought is our repose,

That he by whom this frame was rear'd
Its various weakness knows.
Gently supported by thy love,

We tend to realms of peace,
Where every pain shall far remove,
And every frailty cease.

HYMN 227.

"Why art thou cast down, O my

soul?"

OUR God, how firm his promise stands,
E'en when he hides his face!

He trusts in our Redeemer's hands

His glory and his grace.

Then why, my soul, these sad complaints,
Since Christ and thou are one?

Thy God is faithful to his saints,

Is faithful to his Son.

Beneath his smiles my heart has liv'd,
And part of heaven possess'd;

I praise his name for grace receiv'd,
And trust him for the rest.

MISCELLANEOUS.

HYMN 228.

My times are in thy hand."
SOVEREIGN ruler of the skies,
Ever gracious, ever wise,

All my times are in thy hand,
All events at thy command.

2 Times of sickness, times of health;
Times of penury and wealth;
Times of trial and of grief;
Times of triumph and relief.
Times the tempter's power to prove;
Times to taste a Saviour's love;
All must come, and last, and end,
As shall please my heavenly friend.
Plagues and death around me fly;
Till he bids I cannot die;
Not a single shaft can hit,
Till the God of love sees fit.

Thee at all times will I bless;

Having thee, I all possess ;

How can I bereaved be,

Since I cannot part with thee?

HYMN 229.

"He hath made with me an everlastingcovenant." 1 MY God the covenant of thy love Abides for ever sure;

And in its matchless grace I feel

My happiness secure.

2 What though my house be not with thee
As nature could desire;

To nobler joys than nature gives,
Thy servants all aspire.

Since thou, the everlasting God,
My Father art become;
Jesus my guardian and my friend,
And heaven my final home:

I welcome all thy sovereign will,
For all that will is love;

And when I know not what thou dost,
I wait the light above.

Thy covenant the last accent claims
Of this poor faltering tongue;
And that shall the first notes employ
Of my celestial song.

HYMN 230.

Final perseverance.

REJOICE, believer, in the Lord,
Who makes your cause his own;
The hope that's built upon his word
Can ne'er be overthrown.

Though many foes beset your road,
And feeble is your arm,

Your life is hid with Christ in God,
Beyond the reach of harm.

Weak as you are, you shall not faint,
Or fainting shall not die;

Jesus, the strength of every saint,
Will aid you from on high.

4 Though unperceiv'd by mortal sense,
Faith views him always near,
A guide, a glory, a defence,
Then what have you to fear?

MISCELLANEOUS.

As surely as he overcame,

And triumph'd once for you;
So surely you that love his name
Shall triumph in him too.

HYMN 231.

The seal and witness of the Spirit desired.
WHY should the children of a King
Go mourning all their days?
Great Comforter, descend and bring
Some tokens of thy grace.

Dost thou not dwell in all the saints,
And seal the heirs of heaven?
When wilt thou banish my complaints,
And show my sins forgiven?

Assure my conscience of her part
In the Redeemer's blood;

And bear thy witness with my heart,
That I am born of God.

Thou art the earnest of his love,

The pledge of joys to come;

And thy soft wings, celestial Dove,

Will safe convey me home.

HYMN 232.

"This God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even unto death."

THIS God is the God we adore,
Our faithful, unchangeable friend,
Whose love is as great as his power,
And neither knows measure nor end:
'Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home;
We'll praise him for all that is past,
And trust him for all that's to come.

HYMNS.

HYMN 233.

Invitation to praise..

AWAKE, and sing the song

Of Moses and the Lamb;

Wake, every heart and every tongue,
To praise the Saviour's name.

Sing of his dying love,

Sing of his rising power,
Sing how he intercedes above
For those whose sins he bore.

Sing till we feel our hearts

Ascending with our tongues;
Sing till the love of sin departs,
And grace inspires our songs.

Soon shall we hear him say,

"Ye blessed children, come;"
Soon will he call us hence away,
And take his wanderers home.

There shall our raptur'd tongue
His endless praise proclaim;
And sweeter voices tune the song
Of Moses and the Lamb.

HYMN 234.

God's presence is light in darkness.
MY God, the spring of all my joys,
The life of my delights,

The glory of my brightest days,
And comfort of my nights!

In darkest shades if thou appear,
My dawning is begun davo

Thou art my soul's bright morning-star,
And thou my rising sun.
