SOMATOSE:

AN ALBUMOSE FOOD-PRODUCT.

Indicated in fevers, gastric affections, anæmia, phthisis, convalescence, and as a food for infants.

2

Somatose is prepared from meat, and contains the albuminous elements of the latter in a soluble and highly concentrated form, 80 grains of Somatose being equivalent to about 1, ounces of fresh beef (1 to 8). Somatose consists essentially of albumoses which have the advantages over peptones of being completely utilized within the organism; of being tasteless and odorless, and well borne by even the most sensitive stomach on account of their freedom from irritating properties.

Somatose may be administered in milk, gruels, coffee, or cocoa. In the selection of a solvent consideration should be shown to the individual tastes of the patients. In the case of persons who are convalescent and able to walk about, its administration in cocoa, milk, coffee, with or without milk, is to be preferred. Somatose is best administered before meals..

AN ADJUNCT IN INFANT FEEDING.

Careful experiments have demonstrated that by the addition of
SOMATOSE,

cream and sugar, cow's milk is closely assimilated in composition to woman's milk. So close is the resemblance of milk thus prepared to human milk that it has been designated as

"SOMATOSE-MOTHER'S MILK."

For preparing this food the milk may be employed sterilized, Pasteurized, filtered, or raw, as desired.

SOMATOSE, prepared by the FARBENFABRIKEN VORM. Friedr. Bayer & Co., Elberfeld, Germany, is supplied by us in one pound, half pound, quarter pound, and two ounce tins.

Full descriptive pamphlet mailed to applicants.

RELIABLE AND PROMPT.

Two Characteristics that Commend Scott's Emulsion to the Profession.

-There are more than two,-but the fact that this preparation can be depended upon and does its work promptly covers the whole subject.

Physicians rely upon Scott's Emulsion of Cod Liver Oil with Hypophosphites to accomplish more than can possibly be obtained from plain cod-liver oil. They find it to be pleasant to the taste, agreeable to the weak stomach, and rapid of assimilation. And they know that in recommending it there is no danger of the patient possessing himself of an imperfect emulsion,-Scott's Emulsion remains under all conditions sweet and wholesome, without separation or rancidity.

FORMULA: 50 per cent. of finest Norwegian Cod-Liver Oil; 6 grs. Hypophosphite of Lime; 3 grs. Hypophosphite of Soda to the fluid ounce.

SAMPLE of Scott's Emulsion delivered free to the address of any physician in regular practice.

Prepared by SCOTT & BOWNE, CHEMISTS,

Scott & Bowne Building, New York.
