4 HOLY SPIRIT! Thee we own,
Thee, O CHRIST, the only Son!
Lamb of God! the victim slain
Man to save from endless pain.

5 Praise the name of God most High!
Praise Him, all below the sky:
Praise Him, all ye heav'nly host,
FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.

XII. SACRAMENTAL.

35. Baptism of Infants. (S. M.)

1 THE gentle SAVIOUR calls
Our children to His breast;
He folds them in His gracious arms,
Himself declares them blest.

2

"Let them approach," He cries,
Nor scorn their humble claim:
The heirs of heav'n are such as these,
For such as these I came."

3 Gladly we bring them, LORD,
Devoting them to Thee;
Imploring that, as we are Thine,
Thine may our offspring be.

36. Baptism of adults. EPH. vi. 10-13.

1

SOLDIERS of CHRIST! arise,

And put your armour on;

(S. M.)

Strong in the strength which God supplies
Through His eternal SON.

2

Strong in the LORD of Hosts,
And in His mighty pow'r :
Who in the strength of JESUS trusts,
Is more than conqueror.

3 Stand then in His great might,
With all His strength endu'd;
And take to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God,

4

That, having all things done,
And all your conflicts past;

Ye may behold your victory won,
And stand complete at last.

37. Baptism of adults. (C. M.)

PHIL. iii. 13, 14. HEB. xii. 1. EPH. vi. 10-20. 1 AWAKE, my soul! stretch every nerve, And press with vigour on;

A heav'nly race demands thy zeal,
And an immortal crown.

2 A cloud of witnesses around
Hold thee in full survey;
Forget the steps already trod,
And onward urge thy way.

3 'Tis God's all animating voice,
That calls thee from on high;
"Tis His own hand presents the prize
To thine uplifted eye.

4 Then wake, my soul! stretch every nerve, And press with vigour on;

A heav'nly race demands thy zeal,
And an immortal crown.

CONFIRMATION.

38. The benefits of heavenly wisdom. (C. M.)
10 HAPPY is the man, who hears
Instruction's sacred voice;
And who celestial wisdom makes
His early, only choice:

2 For she has treasures greater far
Than East or West unfold;
And her reward is more secure
Than is the gain of gold.

3 In her right hand she holds to view
A length of happy years;
And in her left enduring wealth
And honour bright appears.

4 She guides the young with innocence
True pleasure's path to tread;
A crown of glory she bestows
Upon the hoary head.

5 And as her holy labours rise,
So her rewards increase;

Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.

39. FOR A SACRAMENT DAY. (L. M.) 1 My God, and is Thy table spread, And doth Thy cup with love o'erflow? Thither be all Thy children led,

And let them all Thy sweetness know. 2 Hail, sacred feast, which JESUS makes, Rich banquet of His flesh and blood! Thrice happy he who here partakes That sacred stream, that heav'nly food..

3 O! let Thy table honour'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests!
each soul salvation see,
That here its sacred pledges tastes.

And may

4 Let crowds approach; with hearts prepar'd, With hearts inflam'd, let all attend; Nor, when we leave our FATHER's board, The pleasure or the profit end. 5 Revive Thy dying churches, Lord, Bid all our drooping graces live; And more, that energy afford,

A SAVIOUR'S blood alone can give.

40. Before the Sacrament. * (P. M.) 1 BREAD of the world, in mercy broken! Wine of the soul, in mercy shed! By whom the words of life were spoken, And in whose death our sins are dead! 2 Look on the heart by sorrow broken, Look on the tears by sinners shed; And be Thy feast to us the token, That by Thy grace our souls are fed!

41. Grateful praise. REV. xix. 5. 7, 8. (C. M.)
1 ALL ye who faithful servants are
Of our Almighty King,

Both high and low, and small and great,
His praise devoutly sing.

2 Let us rejoice and render thanks
To His most holy name;

Rejoice, rejoice! for now is come
The marriage of the LAMB.

*By the late Rt. Rev. Reginald HEBER, D. D. Bishop of Calcutta:-inserted by the liberal permission of Mrs. Heber.

3 His bride, the Church, is new array'd:
How pure and white her dress!
Which is her saints' integrity,
And spotless holiness.

4 O therefore bless'd is every one
Who to the marriage feast,
And holy supper of the Lamb,
Is made a welcome guest!

42. The Lord the Shepherd of His People. (P. M.)
1 THE LORD my pasture shall prepare,
And feed me with a shepherd's care;
His presence shall my wants supply,
And guard me with a watchful eye:
My noon-day walks he shall attend,
And all my midnight hours defend.

2 When in the sultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant,
To fertile vales and dewy meads
My weary wand'ring steps he leads;
Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow,
Amid the verdant landscape flow.

3 Though in the paths of death I tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My stedfast heart shall fear no ill;
For Thou, O LORD, art with me still :
Thy friendly crook shall give me aid,
And guide me through the dreadful shade
