Three volumes of CHEERING WORDS have been completed; and a fourth is now commencing. Whether the hand that begins this fourth volume, shall be spared to finish it, is known only to that God in whose hand is the life of every living creature. We commenced this work, principally, with a view to give to that large class of Christians,-who are very poor in a temporal sense, an opportunity of reading some of those purely spiritual and beautiful writings at that time so freely flowing from the pen of "THE SILENT PREACHER." For a time her pieces did occasionally enrich the pages of CHEERING WORDS; but she has left us: the Lord has taken her to himself. A most mysterious providence indeed! a most painful bereavement was it in every sense: so painful, that we have been tempted to think ourselves unable to continue this, or any similar production: and, it is a question whether we shall be allowed much longer to labour in this part of the vineyard. The clouds are dark-the aspect is gloomy-we are often cast down, and feel the deepest sorrows. For years, we have laboured hard to disseminate-in the cheapest possible manner Price One Half-penny, or 10 copies for 4d. |
