De Grey, Efq; of Merton in Norfolk, lately reprefentative for that county, and was fon of Thomas De Grey, formerly reprefentative for Thetford, co. Norfolk. He was made folicitor to the queen in the year 1761; folicitor-general in 1763; attorney-general in 1766; member for Newport in

1761, 1768; member for Camb. University in 1770; Chief Jufticé of the Common-Pleas in 1771; which he refigned in 1780; and Baron Walsingham in 1780. By his lady, daughter of Wm. Cowper, Efq; late member for Hertford, he had iffue Thomas, now Lord Walfingham, married to Georgiana, daughter of Lord Bofton; Charlotte, married to Jofeph Wyndham, Efq.

13. Lieut. Gen. Wm. Amherst (brother to Lord Amherst), adjut. general of his majefty's forces, colonel of the 32d reg. of foot, and Governor of St. John's, Newfoundland.

6. At Ely-Houfe in Doverftreet, of a dropfy in the breast, in the 68th year of his age, the Right Rev. Dr. Edmund Keene, Lord Bishop of Ely. His lordship was a native of Lynn in Norfolk, and a younger brother of the late Sir Benjamin Keene, K. B. formerly ambaffador to Spain, who left him his fortune.

9. At Eton-school, the eldest fon of Sir Brooke Bridges, Bart. His death was occafioned by a fall as he was running the preceding evening, but did not then perceive he was hurt; he awoke feveral times in the night, and was fick; his brother coming to him to enquire how he was in the morning, he answered he was very well, and expired in ten minutes.

29. Suddenly, at his feat at Dodderfhall in Bucks, the Right Hon. Richard Fienes, Viscount and Baron Say and Sele, and LL.D. His father the Rev. Rich. Fienes, married Penelope, daughter of Geo. Chamberlain, of Wardington, in Oxfordfh. Efq; by whom he had issue (befides the late vifc.) Sufanna, who died unmarried; Vere-Alicia, married to Richard Wykeham, of Swacliff, Oxfordfh. Efq; Elizabeth to the Rev. Henry Quartley, Rector of Wicken, Northamptonfhire; and Cecilia, to Alex. Gordon, of Greenwich in Kent, Efq. His lordship was the grandion of the Hon. Rich. Fienes, fourth fon of William firft Vife. Say and Sele, fo created July 7, 1624, 22 James I.; and in 1742 (being then fellow of New College, Oxford, of which the Fienes's are founder's kin) fucceeded to the title on the death of his father's first coufin, Laurence, and thus became the fixth viscount. He married, in 1754, Christabella, daughter of Sir John Tyrell, of Bucks, Bart. and relict first of John Knapp, Efq; and afterwards of John Pigot, of Dodderthall, in the fame county, Efq; by whom he had no flue. The title of vifcount is now fuppofed to be

extinct.

31. At his feat at Cobham Hall, near Rochester, the Right Hon. John Bligh, Earl and Vifc. Darnley, and Baron Clifton, of Rathmore, in Ireland; and Lord Clifton of Lighton Bromfwold, in England, hereditary High Steward of Gravefend and Milton in Kent. His lordship was born in 1719. In 1739, being then a commoner, he was returned member of the Irifh parliament for Athboy; and in 1741, of the parliament of England for Maidstone in Kent. In 1747, he fucceeded his brother, the late earl; and in Sept. 1766, he married, in Ireland, the daughter and heiress of the late John Stoyte, Efq. He is fucceeded in title and eftate by his eldest fon, Lord Clifton, a youth of 17, now at Etonfchool. The late earl has ordered, by his will, his remains to be interred, or entombed, in a maufoleum to be built and confecrated for that purpose in his park. In the mean time they are to be embalmed and foldered up.

Lately, at Sidcup, the Hon. Thomas Arundel, Count of the Sacred Roman Empire, brother to Lord Arundel of Wardour.

Aug. 6. Drowned as he was bathing in the Thames, the fecond fon of Sir Charles Cox, Bart. an amiable and moft promifing youth of Westminster-school.

30. After a long illness, during which he was feveral time confidently reported to have been dead, Geo. Hayley, Efq; Alderman of Cordwainer's Ward, and one of the four reprefentatives in parliament for the city of London. He married the fifter of John Wilkes, Efq; widow of Mr. Stork, an eminent Weft-India merchant, and by her had two fons, who died young, and two daughters, one of whom furvives.

At Auchiries, the Hon. John Forbes, of Pitfligo, aged 68. He was only fon to Alexander Lord Forbes, of Pitfligo, by his firft Lady Rebecca Norton, of London. married, the 2d of Aug. 1750, Rebecra Ogilvie, eldeft daughter of the late James Ogilvie, of Auchiries; by whom having had no iffue, the male line of the ancient and noble houfe of Pitfligo is extinct. The family is now represented by Sir Wm. Forbes, Bart. banker in Edinburgh.

At Tobago, a few days before the French took poffeffion of it, the Hon. Lieut. Sutton, of the S6th reg. of foot, fon of the Right Hon. Lord Geo. Sutton.

At Philorth, aged 61, the Right Hon. George Lord Saltoun.

16. At Briftol, the Right Hon. Dorothy Counters of Harborough, Lady of the Right Hon. the Earl of Harborough, of Stapleford, Leicestershire.

21. At Afh-Hall, co. York, Sir Laurence Dundas, Bart. member for Richmond in the laft parliament. By the death of Sir L. D. an eftate of 16,000l. per ann. devolves to his fon, now Sir Thomas Dundas. He is alfo faid to have left behind him, in various legacies to his nephews and other relations, the immenfe fortune of 900,000l. in perfonalities and landed property.

At Brough Hall, Yorkshire, Sir Henry Lawlon, Bart. He is fucceeded in title and eflate by his eldeft fon, now Sir John Lawfon.

28. At his feat at St. Ofyth,

in Effex, aged 64, the Right Hon. William Henry Naflau De Zule. ftein, Earl of Rochford, Vifcount Tunbridge, Knight of the Garter, one of his majefty's privy council, one of the elder brethren of the Trinity-Houfe, a Governor of the Charter-Houfe, Vice-admiral of the coafts of Effex, Lord Lieut. and Cuft. Rot. of the county, and Col. of the western battalion of the Effex militia. He married Lucy, daughter of Edw. Young, Efq; of Durnford, Wilts, and one of the maids of honour to the princess of Wales. Dying without iffue, his titles and estate devolve to his nephew, Wm. Henry Naffau, Efq; eldest son of the late Hon. Rich. Savage Natlhu, formerly M. P. for Malden in Eilex.

The Rt. Hon. Vere Beauclerk, Lord Vere of Hanworth, one of the Vice-prefidents of the Asylum, and uncle to the Duke of St. Alban's. His lordship was the third fon of Charles the firft Duke of St. Alban's, by his wife the Lady Diana Vere, fole heir of the 20th and laft Earl of Oxford of that illuftrious family. He married the eldest daughter and co-heir of Tho. Chambers, Efq; of Hanworth, in Middlefex, and fifter to the Countefs Temple, by whom he left a fon Aubry, now Lord Vere, member in the parliament that met in 1768, for Aldborough in Yorkthire, who in 1763, married Lady Catharine Pontonby, daughter of the Earl of Befborough, by whom he has iffue; and a daughter, Mary, married in 1762, to Lord Cha. Spencer, next brother to the Duke of Marlborough.
