Christ's transfiguration.

CHAP. X

16 Then he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.

17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.

18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him; and he asked them, saying, Who say the people that I am? 19 They answering, said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, That one of the old prophets is risen again.

10 He said unto them, But who say ye that am? Peter answering, said, The Christ of God. 21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing,

He commendeth humility 42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

43 ¶ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

45 But they understood not this saying, and t
was hid from them, that they perceived it not:
and they feared to ask him of that saying.
46 T Then there arose a reasoning among them,
which of them should be greatest.

47 And Jesus perceiving the thought of their 22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many heart, took a child, and set him by himn, things, and be rejected of the elders, and chief 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall repriests, and scribes, and be slain, and be raised ceive this child in my name, receiveth me; and the third day. whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that 23 ¶ And he said to them all, If any man will sent me: for he that is least among you all, the come after me, let him deny himself, and take same shall be great. up his cross daily, and follow me.

24 For whosoever will save his life, shall lose It: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the kingdom of God.

49 1 And John answered and said, Master, we
saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we
forbade him, because he followeth not with us
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not:
for he that is not against us, is for us.
51 1 And it came to pass, when the time was
come that he should be received up, he stead-
fastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
52 And sent messengers before his face and
they went and entered into a village of the Sa-
maritans, to make ready for him.
53 And they did not receive him, because his
face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
54 And when his disciples James and John saw
this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we com-

28 1 And it came to pass, about an eight days
after these sayings, he took Peter, and John, and
James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his coun-sume them, even as Elias did?
tenance was altered, and his raiment was white
and glistering.

30 And behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, end overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.

35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

57 ¶ And it came to pass, that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but tire Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell which are at home at my house.

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man having 36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is found alone. And they kept it close, and told fit for the kingdom of God. no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took

14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. 15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

16 He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me. 17 ¶ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

hurt you.

38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her house.

39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered, and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful, and troubled about many things:

42 But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. 23 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

45 T Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

46 And he said, We unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

47 Wo unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. 48 Truly ye bear witness, that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, 1 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven will send them prophets and apostles, and some other spirits more wicked than himself; and of them they shall slay and persecute: they enter in, and dwell there: and the last 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which state of that man is worse than the first. was shed from the foundation of the world, may 27 And it came to pass, as he spake these be required of this generation; things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

35 Take heed therefore, that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. 3 Therefore, whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness, shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets, shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.

II And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge, or a divider over you?

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and be ware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich nan brought forth plentifully:

39 And this know, that if the good man of the
house had known what hour the thief would
come, he would have watched, and not have suf-

40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of
man cometh at an hour when ye think net.
41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest
thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful
and wise steward, whom his lord shall make
ruler over his household, to give them their por-
tion of meat in due season?

43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What 44 Of a truth I say unto you, That he will make shall I do, because I have no room where to be him ruler over all that he hath. stow my fruits?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down ny barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 And be said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall cat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap: which neither have store-house, nor barn; and God fecdeth them. How much more are ye better than the fowls?

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

45. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the men-servants, and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sun der, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47 And that servant which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
