A Prayer for Friday Morning.

MOST Holy, moft Merciful, and moft Gracious Lord God; thou art the inexhaustible Fountain of all Good, the Source and Spring of all our Comforts here, and the fure and certain Foundation of all our Hopes hereafter: Look down from Heaven, the Habitation of thy Holiness, upon me, who humbly beg Leave to renew my Praises to thy Divine Majesty, in whom I live, and move, and have my Being.

O Lord! I acknowledge, that under thy Protection I have this Night flept fecure, and by thine infinite Goodness it is, that I am now in Health and Safety: Praised therefore be thy Name, O Lord: O let all that is within me praife thy holy Name; as long as I live I will magnify thee, O God, for thou art my Creator, my Preferver, and my conftant benefactor.

Pardon, O moft merciful Father, all the

un

unworthy Returns I have made for the manifold Favours I have received from thee; and grant me for the Time to come, fuch a Senfe of thine infinite Goodness and Mercy, that I may love thee with all my Heart, with all my Soul, and with all my Strength; that I may study to please thee in all Things, and be afraid of nothing fo much as thy Difpleasure.

To this End, O gracious Lord, make me truly fenfible of the Vanity of this, World; that I may not be carried away with the Force and Power of fenfible Objects, nor brought under the Dominion of thofe Lufts, which war against the Soul. Give me Grace fo to use the World, as not to abuse it; and grant, that neither the Cares of this Life, nor the Deceitfulness of Riches, may ever make me neglect the great Work thou haft given me to do. Root out of my Heart all covetous Affections and Defires, and let it be my great Care and Concern to provide for Eternity, and to lay up a Treasure in Heaven, which faileth not.

Deliver me, O my God, from Pride and Vain-glory; from a fond Conceit of myfelf, or a mean Opinion of others; from a cenforious and uncharitable Spirit; from an envious and malicious Temper; and from all those finful and corrupt Affections that G 3

are

are fo hateful in thy Sight; and O be thou pleafed to endue me with that Wisdom, which is from above; which is firft pure, and then peaceable; with that Meeknefs and Humility which is in thy Sight of fo great Price; and with all thofe holy and Chriftian Difpofitions that thou lovest and delighteft in.

Make me always mindful of my own Frailty, of the Shortnefs and Uncertainty of this Life, and of the Eternity of the next. Make me careful fo to live, as I fhall wifh I had done when I come to die; O let not Sickness or Death ever surprise me unawares, or find me in a State unprovided; but grant that I may finifh the great Work of my Salvation before the Night comes when no Man can work; that fo having laid up a good Foundation of Hope and Comfort against the Day of Trouble and Sickness, I may, whenever thou shalt be pleased to call me hence, chearfully refign up my Soul into thy Hands! And Oh, do thou vouchfafe to receive it to thy Mercy, through thy Merits and for the Sake of thy dear Son Jefus Chrift the Righteous.

Be with me, O Lord, this Day: Let thy Bleffing accompany all my honeft Labours and Endeavours; and grant that I may take othing in Hand but what is agreeable to

thy

thy bleffed Will. To thee I humbly beg Leave to commend my Soul and Body, and all that stand in any Relation to me; befeeching thee, of thy great Goodness, to take us under thy Protection, to defend us from all Evil, and to lead us into all Good. Grant that whilft we are engaged about Things temporal, we may not forget the Things that are eternal; nor be unmindful of that great Account which we must one Day give. O Lord, leave us not to ourfelves, but guard us from thofe Snares and Temptations that every where furround us. Conduct us by thy good Spirit, through the Affairs and Bufinefs of this Life, that we may at laft arrive at that Place of everlafting Reft and Peace which thou haft prepared for those who truly and fincerely love and fear thee, through the Merits and Interceffion of thy beloved Son, Jefus Christ our Lord; in whofe most comprehenfive Words, I fum up my own, and the Wants of all Mankind, faying,

A Prayer for Friday Noon, or any Intermediate Time of the Day.

Almighty God, who haft promised to

hear the Petitions of them that afk in thy Son's Name, Ibefeech thee mercifully to incline thine ears to me, that am now come before thee, to offer up my Prayers at the Throne of Grace, in the Name, and thro' the Mediation of thy beloved Son; for his Sake, O Lord, I humbly befeech thee, to look upon me with the Tendernefs and Bowels of a compaffionate Father: And fince thou haft taught me to call thee Father, O make me to render unto thee the Love and Obedience of a Child.

Give me a holy Difdain of the deceitful Pleasures, Honours, and Riches of the World; and fo raise my Mind above the Things of this Life, that I may always have my Conversation in Heaven, from whence I look for my Saviour, the Lord Jefus Chrift.

Strike fuch an Awe into my Heart, that I may humbly reverence thy Name, which is great, wonderful, and holy, and fear nothing fo much as thy Displeasure: And O do thou establish thy Throne, and rule for ever in my Soul; and by the mighty Power
