(1) The judicious and learned Mr. Jofeph Mede, in his Difcourfe on the 1 Cor. 11. 22. interprets the Places in the References to fignifie, not the Houbold or Family of the Perfon faluted, but the Affembly or Congregation of Chriftians, who met there publickly to worship God. In this Difcourfe, he makes it highly probable, that the Perfons here falued had, in their refpective Cities and Places of Abode, dedicated fome Part or Place in their Houfes to be an Oratory or Place of publick Worship for the Chriftians to affemble in for the Performance of divine and religious Duries. Such a Place, it is probable, was the upper Room, mentioned Acts 1. 13. as alfo the Church, that is, the Place of publick Worship, I Co. 11. 22. See the Note on Acts 2. 46.

(2) Many of the Antients here read Afia, not Achaia, and then there is no difagreement between this Place and Cor. 16. 15. Or, we may understand it thus: That Stephanas and his Family were the first who were converted to the Chriftian Faith in Achaia, and Epenitus one of the first.
