Saviour, breathe an evening blessing.
Saviour Divine, we know Thy name
Saviour! upon Thy glorious throne
Saviour, we lift our trembling eyes
Saviour! when in dust to Thee
Servants of God, awake

Soldiers of Christ! arise
Soldiers of the Cross, arise.
Son of man, to Thee we cry
Sons of men, behold from far.
Songs of praise the angels sang
Soon, too soon, the sweet repose
Souls in heathen darkness lying
Sovereign Ruler of the skies

Spirit of God, that moved of old.
Spirit of mercy, truth, and love
Spirit of might and sweetness too
Spirit of Truth! on this Thy day
Spread, O spread, thou mighty Word
Strive, when thou art called of God
Sun of my soul! Thou Saviour dear.
Sunk is the sun's last beam of light
Sweet is the Spirit's strain

Sweet is the work, our God and King
Take up thy cross, the Saviour said.
That day of wrath, that dreadful day
Thee, Father, God, we glorify
The Church has waited long.
The eternal gates lift up their heads.
The feeble pulse, the gasping breath
The God of Love my Shepherd is
The highest hopes we cherish here

Thou art gone to the grave! but we will not deplore thee 203

[blocks in formation]

Three in One, and One in Three
Through all the changing scenes of life
Through the day Thy love has spared us
Through the night by Thee preserved
Thy counsels, Lord, shall guide my feet
Thy way, not mine, O Lord

'Tis sweet to rest in lively hope

To God be glory, peace on earth
To-morrow, Lord, is Thine

To the still wrestlings of the lonely heart
Try us, O God, and search the ground.

We ask for life, and mean thereby
We give immortal praise

We saw Thee not, when Thou didst tread
We sing the praise of Him who died

We've no abiding city here

We walk on earth, and to its ways
When all Thy mercies, O my God
When Christ came down on earth of old
When gathering clouds around I view

When God of old came down from heaven
