12 Thy Vows are upon me, O GOD: I will render Praises unto thee.

13 For thou haft delivered my Soul from Death: wilt not thou deliver my Feet from falling, that I may walk before GoD in the Light of the Living.

CHAP. XXII.

i Companies refort to David at Adullam. 9 Doeg accufeth Ahimelech. 11 Saul commandeth to kill the Priefts.

CXLII.

Ver. 1 DAVID therefore Mafchil of David; a Prayer when he

departed thence, and escaped to the Cave Adullam and when his Brethren, and all his Father's Houfe heard it, they went down thither to him. 2 And One that was every in Distress, and every One that was in Debt, and every One that was difcontented, gathered themselves unto him, and he became a Captain over them and there were with him about four hundred Men. 3 And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab and he faid unto the King of Moab, Let my Father and my Mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you till I know what God will do for me.

2 I poured out my Complaint before him; I fhewed before him my

Trouble.

3 When my Spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou kneweft my Path in the Way wherein I walked, have they privily laid a Snare for

me.

4 And he brought them before the King of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the Hold.

5 And the Prophet Gad faid unto David, Abide not in the Hold, depart, and get thee into the Land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the Forest of Hareth.

6 When Saul heard that David was difcovered, and the Men that were with him (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a Tree in Ramah, having his Spear in his Hand, and all his Servants were standing about him.)

7 Then Saul faid unto his Servants that ftood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites, Will the Son of Jeffe give every one of you Fields, and Vineyards, and make you all Captains of Thousands, and Captains of Hundreds.

8 That all of you have confpired against me, and there is none that fheweth me that my Son hath made a League with the Son of Jeffe, and there is none of you that is forry for me, or fheweth unto me that my Son hath stirred up my Servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this Day?

9 d Then anfwered DOEG the EDOMITE (which was fet over the Servants of Saul) and faid, I faw the Son of Jeffe coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the Son of Ahitub.

10 And he enquired of the LORD for him and gave him Victuals, and gave him the Sword of Goliah the Philiftine.

11 Then the King fent to call Ahimelech the Prieft the Son of Ahitub, and all his Father's Houfe, the Priests that were in Nob and they came all of them to the King.

12 And Saul faid, Hear now, thou Son of Ahitub And he answered, Here I am, my LORD.

HY boafteft thou thy felf in

2 Thy Tongue devifeth Mischiefs: like a fharp Razor, working deceitfully.

3 Thou loveft Evil more than

Good and Lying rather than to fpeak Righteoufnels.

4 Thou loveft all devouring Words, O thou deceitful Tongue.

S GOD fhall likewife deftroy thee forever, he fhall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy Dwelling-place,

and root thee out of the Land of the Living.

6 The Righteous alfo fhall fee, and fear, and shall laugh at him.

7 Lo, this is the Man that made not God his Strength: but trufted in the abundance of his Riches, and ftrengthened himself in his Wicked

nefs.

8 But I am like a green Olive-tree

13 And Saul faid unto him, Why have ye confpired against me, thou and the Son in the Houfe of GoD: I truft in the of Jeffe, in that thou haft gi- Mercy of God for ever and ever. 9 I will praife thee for ever, beven him Bread, and a Sword, caufe thou haft done it: and I will and haft enquired of GOD for wait on thy Name, for it is good behim, that he should rife against fore thy Saints. me, to lie in wait as at this Day?

14 Then Ahimelech answered the King, and faid, And who is fo faithful among all thy Servants, as David, which is the King's Son-in-law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine Houfe?

15 Did I then begin to enquire of Gop for him? be it

far from me let not the King impute any thing unto his Servant, nor to all the Houfe of my Father: for thy Servant knew nothing of all this, lefs or more.

16 And the King faid, Thou fhalt furely die, Ahimelech, thou and all thy Father's Houfe.

17 And the King faid unto the Foot-men that ftood about him, Turn and flay the Priefts of the LORD; because their Hand alfo is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not fhew it to me. But the Servants of the King would not put forth their Hand to fall upon the Priefts of the LORD.

18 And the King faid to Doeg, Turn thou and fall upon the Priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the Priests, and flew on that Day fourfcore and five Perfons that did wear a linen Ephod.

19 And Nob the City of the Pricfts, fmote he with the Edge of the Sword, both Men and Women, Children and Sucklings, and Oxen, and Afles, and Sheep, with the Edge of the Sword.

20 And one of the Sons of Ahimelech the Son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, efcaped and fled after David.

21 And Abiathar fhewed David, that Saul had flain the LORD'S Priefts.

22 And David faid unto Abiathar, I knew it that Day, when Docg the Edomite was there, that he would furely tell Saul I have occafioned the Death of all the Perfons of thy Father's House.

23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that fecketh my Life, feeketh thy Life: but with me thou shalt be in Safeguard.

CHA P. XXIII.

David enquiring of the LORD, refcueth Keilah: 7 GOD fhewing bim Saul's coming, and the Treachery of the Keilites, he efcapeth from Keilah.

HEN they told David, faying, Behold, the
Philiftines fight against Keilah, and they rob the

Threfhing-floors.

2 Therefore David enquired of the LORD, faying, Shall I go and fmite these Philiftines? And the LORD faid unto David, Go, and fmite the Philiftines, and fave Keilah.

3 And David's Men faid unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah how much more then if we come to Keilah against the Armies of the Philistines?

4 Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and faid, Arife, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philiftines into thine Hand.

5 So David and his Men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philiftines, and brought away their Cattle, and fmote them with a great Slaughter: So David faved the Inhabitants of Keilah.

6 And it came to pass when Abiathar the Son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an Ephod in his Hand.

7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah : and Saul faid, God hath delivered him into mine Hand; for he is fhut in, by entring into a Town that hath Gates and Bars.

8 And Saul called all the People together to War, to go down to Keilah, to befiege David and his Men.

9 And David knew that Saul fecretly practifed Mischief against him; and he faid to Abiathar the Prieft, Bring hither the Ephod.

10 Then faid David, O LORD GOD of Ifrael, thy Servant hath certainly heard that Saul feeketh to come to Keilah, to deftroy the City for my Sake.

11 Will the Men of Keilah deliver me up into his Hand? will Saul come down as thy Servant hath heard? O LORD GOD of Ifrael, I befeech thee, tell thy Servant. And the LORD faid, He will come down.

12 Then faid David, Will the Men of Keilah deliver me and my Men into the Hand of Saul? And the LORD faid, They will deliver thee up.

13 Then David and his Men which were about fix hundred, arofe and departed out of Keilah, and went whitherfoever they could go and it was told Saul that David was efcaped from Keilah, and he forbare to go forth.

14 And David abode in the Wilderness in strong Holds, and remained in a Mountain in the Wilderness of Ziph: and Saul fought him every Day, but GOD delivered him not into his Hand.

15 And David faw that Saul was come out to feek his Life and David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in a Wood.

16 And Jonathan Saul's Son arofe, and went to David. into the Wood, and strengthened his Hand in GOD.

17 And he faid unto him, Fear not for the Hand of Saul my Father shall not find thee, and thou fhalt be King over Ifrael, and I fhall be next unto thee; and that alfo Saul my Father knoweth.

18 And they two made a Covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the Wood, and Jonathan went to his House.

faying, Doth not David hide himself with us in ftrong Holds

not David hide himself with us?
Ave me, O GOD, by thy NAME,

in the Wood, in the Hill of Sand judge me by thy STRENGTH. Hachilah, which is on the South of Jefhimon?

20 Now therefore, O King, come down, according to all the Defire of thy Soul to come down, and our Part fhall be to deliver him into the King's Hand.

21 And Saul faid, Bleffed 'be ye of the LORD; for have Compaffion on me.

2 Hear my Prayer, O GOD; Give Ear to the Words of my Mouth.

3 For Strangers are rifen up against me, and Oppreffors feek after my Soul; they have not fet God before

them.

4 Behold, GoD is mine HELPER:

the LORD is with them that uphold my Soul.

s He fhall reward Evil unto mine Enemies; cut them off in thy Truth.

6 I will freely facrifice unto thee; I will praise thy Name, O LORD, for it is good.

7 For he hath DELIVER'D me out

of all TROUBLE: and mine Eye hath feen his Defire upon mine Enemies. and who hath feen him there:

22 Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and fee his Place where his Haunt is, for it is told me that he dealeth very fubtilly. 23 See therefore and take Knowledge of all the lurking Places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the Certainty, and I will go with you and it fhall come to pafs, if he be in the Land, that I will fearch him out throughout all the Thousands of Judah.

24 And they arofe, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his Men were in the Wilderness of Maon, in the Plain on the South of Jefhimon.

25 Saul alfo and his Men went to feek him; and they told David: wherefore he came down into a Rock, and abode in the Wildernefs of Maon: and when Saul heard that, he purfued after David in the Wilderness of Maon.

26 And Saul went on this fide of the Mountain, and David and his Men on that fide of the Mountain; and Da
