II Again alfo he fent unto him another Captain of fifty, with his fifty and he answered and faid unto him, O Man of GOD, thus hath the King faid, Come down quickly.

12 And Elijah answered and faid unto them, If I be a Man of GOD, let Fire come down from Heaven, and confume thee and thy fifty. And the Fire of GOD came down from Heaven, and confumed him and his fifty.

13 And he fent again a Captain of the third fifty, with his fifty and the third Captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his Knees before Elijah, and befought him, and faid unto him, O Man of GoD, I pray thee, let my Life, and the Life of thefe fifty thy Servants be precious in thy fight.

14 Behold, there came Fire down from Heaven, and burnt up the two Captains of the former fifties, with their fifties therefore let my Life now be precious in thy fight.

15 And the Angel of the LORD faid unto Elijah, Go down with him, be not afraid of him. And he rofe, and went down with him unto the King.

16 And he faid unto him, Thus faith the LORD, Forafmuch as thou haft fent Meflengers to enquire of Baalzebub the God of Ekron (is it not because there is no God in Ifrael to enquire of his Word?) therefore thou shalt not come down off the Bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt furely die.

17 So he died, according to the Word of the LORD which Elijah had fpoken: and Jehoram reigned in his ftead, in the fecond Year of Jehoram the Son of Jehoshaphat King of Judah; because he had no Son.

3 And the Sons of the Prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elifha, and faid unto him, Knoweft thou that the LORD will take away thy Mafter from thy Head To-day? And he faid, Yea, I know it, hold you your

peace.

:

4 And Elijah faid unto him, Elifha, tarry here, I pray thee for the LORD hath fent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy Soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.

6 And Elijah faid unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here: for the LORD hath fent me to Jordan. And he faid, As the LORD liveth, and as thy Soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.

7 And fifty Men of the Sons of the Prophets went, and ftood to view afar off: and they two ftood by Jordan.

8 And Elijah took his Mantle and wrapt it together, and fmote the Waters, and they were divided hither and thither, To that they two went over on dry Ground.

9 And it came to pafs when they were gone over, that Elijah faid unto Elifha, Afk what I fhall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elifha faid, I pray thee, let a double Portion of thy Spirit be upon me.

10 And he faid, Thou haft afked a hard Thing nevertheless, if thou fee me when I am taken from thee, it shall be fo unto thee; but if not, it shall not be fo.

11 And it came to pafs as they ftill went on, and talked, that behold there appeared a Chariot of Fire, and Horfes of Fire, and parted them both afunder, and Elijah went up by a Whirlwind into Heaven.

12 And Elifha faw it, and he cried, My Father, my Father, the Chariot of Ifrael, and the Horfemen thereof.

And

And he faw him no more: and he took hold of his own Cloaths, and rent them in two pieces.

13 He took up alfo the Mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and ftood by the Bank of Jordan;

14 And he took the Mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the Waters, and faid, Where is the LORD GOD of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the Waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

15 And when the Sons of the Prophets which were to view at Jericho, faw him, they said, The Spirit of Elijah doth reft on Elifha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the Ground before him.

16 And they faid unto him, Behold now, there be with thy Servants fifty ftrong Men, let them go, we pray thee, and feek thy Mafter: left peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and caft him upon fome Mountain, or into fome Valley. And he faid, Ye fhall not fend.

17 And when they urged him till he was afhamed, he faid, Send. They fent therefore fifty Men; and they fought three Days, but found him not.

20 And he faid, Bring me a new Crufe, and put Salt therein. And they brought it to him.

21 And he went forth unto the Spring of the Waters, and caft the Salt in there, and faid, Thus faith the LORD, I have healed thefe Waters; there fhall not be from thence any more Death, or barren Land.

22 So the Waters were healed unto this Day, according to the Saying of Elifha which he fpake.

23 And he went up from thence unto Beth-el and as he was going up by the Way, there came forth little Children out of the City, and mocked him, and faid unto him, Go up thou Bald-head, go up thou Bald-head.

24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and curfed them in the Name of the LORD: and there came forth two She-bears out of the Wood, and tare forty and two Children of them.

25 And

25 And he went from thence to Mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.

CHA P. III.

Jehoram's Reign. 4 Mesha rebelleth. 6 Jehoram, with Jehoshaphat and the King of Edom, being diftreffed for want of Water, by Elifba obtaineth Water and Promife of Victory. 21 The Moabites deceived by the Colour of the Water, coming to fpoil, are overcome. 26 The King of Moab, by facrificing the King of Edom's Son, raifeth the Siege.

3 Nevertheless, he cleaved unto the Sins of Jeroboam the Son of Nebat, which made Ifrael to fin; he departed not therefrom.

4 And Mesha King of Moab was a Sheep-mafter, and rendred unto the King of Ifrael an hundred thousand Lambs, and an hundred thoufand Rams, with the Wool.

5 But it came to pafs when Ahab was dead, that the King of Moab rebelled against the King of Ifrael.

7 And he fent to Jehoshaphat the King of Judah, faying, The King of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to Battle? And he faid, I will go up: I am as thou art, my People as thy People, and my Horfes as thy Horfes.

8 And he faid, Which Way fhall we go up? And he anfwered, The Way through the Wilderness of Edom.

9 So the King of Ifrael went, and the King of Judah, and the King of Edom: and they fetched a Compafs of feven Days Journey: and there was no Water for the Hoft, and for the Cattle that followed them.

10 And the King of Ifrael faid, Alas, that the LORD hath called these three Kings together, to deliver them into the Hand of Moab.

11 But Jehoshaphat faid, Is there not here a Prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the King of Ifrael's Servants answered and faid, Here is Elifha the Son of Shaphat, which poured Water on the Hands of Elijah.

12 And Jehoshaphat faid, The Word of the LORD is with him. So the King of Ifrael, and Jehoshaphat, and the King of Edom, went down to him.

13 And Elifha faid unto the King of Ifrael, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the Prophets of thy Father, and to the Prophets of thy Mother. And the King of Ifrael faid unto him, Nay for the LORD hath called thefe three Kings together, to deliver them into the Hand of Moab.

14 And Elifha faid, As the LORD of Hofts liveth, before whom I ftand, furely were it not that I regard the Prefence of Jehoshaphat the King of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor fee thee.

15 But now bring me a Minstrel. And it came to pass when the Minstrel played, that the Hand of the LORD came upon him.

16 And he faid, Thus faith the LORD, Make this Valley full of Ditches.

17 For thus faith the LORD, Ye fhall not fee Wind, neither fhall ye fee Rain; yet that Valley fhall be filled with Water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your Cattle, and your Beafts.

18 And this is but a light Thing in the fight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites alfo into your Hand.

19 And ye fhall fmite every fenced City, and every choice City, and fhall fell every good Tree, and stop all Wells of Water, and marr every good piece of Land with Stones.

20 And it came to pafs in the Morning when the Meatoffering was offered, that behold, there came Water by the way of Edom, and the Countrey was filled with Water.
