23 But haft lifted up thy felf against the LORD of Heaven, and they have brought the Veffels of his House before thee, and thou and thy Lords, thy Wives and thy Concubines have drunk Wine in them, and thou haft praifed the Gods of Silver and Gold, of Brafs, Iron, Wood, and Stone, which fee not, nor hear, nor know: and the GoD in whofe Hand thy BREATH is, and whose are all thy Ways, haft thou not glorified.

24 Then was the part of the Hand fent from him, and this Writing was written.

25 And this is the Writing that was written, MENE MENE, TEKEL UPHARSIN.

26 This is the Interpretation of the Thing, MENE, GOD hath numbred thy Kingdom, and hath finished it.

27 TEKEL, thou art weighed in the Balances, and art found wanting.

28 PERES, thy Kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Perfians.

29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with Scarlet, and put a Chain of Gold about his Neck, and made a Proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third Ruler in the Kingdom.

30 In that Night was Belshazzar the King of the Chaldeans flain.

31 And Darius the Median took the Kingdom, being about threefcore and two Years old.

2 And over these three Prefidents, of whom Daniel was FIRST, that the Princes might give Accounts unto them, and the King fhould have no Damage.

3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the Presidents and Princes, because an EXCELLENT SPIRIT was in him ; and the King thought to fet him over the whole Realm.

Then the Prefidents and Princes fought to find occafion against Daniel, concerning the Kingdom, but they could find none Occafion, nor Fault: forafmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any Error or FAULT found in him.

5 Then faid these Men, We fhall not find any Occafion against this Daniel, except we find against him concern ing the Law of his GOD.

6 Then these Prefidents and Princes affembled together to the King, and faid thus unto him, King Darius, live for

ever.

7 All the Presidents of the Kingdom, the Governors and the Princes, the Counsellors and the Captains have confulted together, to stablish a Royal Statute, and to make a firm Decree, that whofoever fhall afk a Petition of any GoD or Man for thirty Days, fave of thee, O King, he shall be caft into the Den of Lions.

& Now, O King, eftablish the Decree, and fign the Writing that it be not changed, according to the Law of the Medes and Perfians, which altereth not.

9 Wherefore King Darius figned the Writing and the Decree.

10 Now when Daniel KNEW that the Writing was figned, he went into his Houfe, and his Windows being open in his Chamber toward Jerufalem, he kneeled upon his Knees THREE TIMES a Day, and PRAYED, and gave Thanks before his GOD, as he did aforetime.

11 Then these Men aflembled, and found Daniel praying, and making Supplication before his GOD.

12 Then they came near, and spoke before the King concerning the King's Decree, Haft thou not figned a Decree, that every Man that shall afk a Petition of any GoD or Man, within thirty Days, fave of thee O King, fhall be caft into the Den of Lions? The King anfwered and faid, The Thing is true, according to the Law of the Medes and Perfians, which altereth not.

13 Then anfwered they, and faid before the King, That Daniel which is of the Children of the Captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O King, nor the Decree that thou hast figned, but maketh his Petition three Times a Day.

14 Then the King, when he heard thefe Words, was fore difpleafed with himself, and fet his Heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the Sun to deliver him.

15 Then

15 Then thefe Men affembled unto the King, and faid unto the King, Know, O King, that the Law of the Medes and Perfians is, that no Decree nor Statute which the King establisheth, may be changed.

16 Then the King commanded, and they brought Daniel, and caft him into the Den of Lions: now the King fpake and faid unto Daniel, Thy GOD whom thou fervet continually, he will deliver thee.

17 And a Stone was brought, and laid upon the Mouth of the Den, and the King fealed it with his own Signet, and with the Signet of his Lords, that the Purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

18 Then the King went to his Palace, and paffed the Night in Fafting: neither were Inftruments of Mufick brought before him, and his Sleep went from him.

19 Then the King arose very early in the Morning, and I went in Hafte unto the Den of Lions.

20 And when he came to the Den, he cried with a lamentable Voice unto Daniel, and the King fpake and faid to Daniel, O Daniel, Servant of the Living God, is thy GOD whom thou ferveft continually, able to deliver thee from the Lions?

21 Then faid Daniel unto the King, O King live for

ever.

22 My GOD hath fent his Angel, and hath fhut the Lions Mouths, that they have not hurt me: forafmuch as

Innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O King, have I done no Hurt.

8 Pfal. xci. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the Lion and Adder: the young Lion and the Dragon fhalt thou trample under Feet.

2 Tim. iv. 17 Notwithstanding the LORD ftood with me, and ftrengthened

me; that by me the Preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the Mouth of the

Lion.

23 Then was the King exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they fhould take Daniel up out of the Den: fo Daniel was taken up out of the Den, and no manner of HURT was found upon him, because he BELIEVED IN HIS GOD.

24 And the King commanded, and they brought thofe Men which had accufed Daniel, and they caft them into the Den of Lions, them, their Children, and their Wives: and the Lions had the Maftery of them, and brake all their bones in Pieces, or ever they came at the Bottom of the Den.

25 Then King Darius wrote unto all People, Nations,

and Languages that dwell in all the Earth, Peace be multiplied unto you.

26 I make a Decree that in every Dominion of my Kingdom, Men tremble and fear before the GOD of Daniel: for he is the living GOD, and stedfaft for ever, AND HIS KINGDOM that WHICH SHALL NOT BE DESTROYED, and his Dominion fhall be even unto the End.

27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh Signs and Wonders in Heaven and in Earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the Power of the Lions.

28 So this Daniel profpered in the Reign of Darius, and in the Reign of Cyrus the Perfian.
