The various Parts of this Manual have been drawn up from time to time, as occasion required, during the last six years, for the benefit of my own Parishioners. The materials have been quarried and collected from many sources, some of which it is now impossible to verify: whilst the Addresses themselves have for the most part been actually delivered to Communicants' Classes of men and of women. The frequent inquiries made of late, in the Church papers, for some Manual or Hand-Book containing hints and helps, topics and suggestions for conducting such Classes, have led to the publication of the present volume.
It is, of course, utterly impossible to exhaust so great and deep a subject as THE HOLY EUCHARIST, or even adequately to treat It, in a few half-hour addresses. The mass of ocean cannot be poured into a little hole in the sand. No man can find out the Almighty unto perfection. Nevertheless I would fain hope that this Manual will be found useful by my brethren, and may assist them in their efforts to promote a more devout and frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist, as well as a more intelligent perception of what this great Mystery of the Gospel really is.
