Then he reads the short chapter following:

From St. Paul's Epistle to the

Romans.

we with patience wait for it. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our in

'BRETHREN, the whole crea- firmities: for we know not what

tion groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope but hope that is seen is not hope for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do

we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.

Then he says,

. Greatly to be blessed and praised art Thou, O Lord. Ry. Who art gone up on high, and hast led captivity captive, and received gifts for men.

. Thanks be to God.

Ry. Whose mercy is over all His works.

. Praised be the Lord daily.

Ry. Who helpeth us, and poureth His benefits upon us.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit, O Lord, and our hearts shall be

revived.

Ry. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Then all kneeling, say the following Confession:

ALMIGHTY God, graciously vouchsafe to hear the prayers of us Thine unworthy servants, who confess and bewail the innumerable sins we have most grievously committed against Thee by thought, word, and deed; and send down from heaven the divine light of Thy Holy Spirit to purify and enlighten our hearts, and to guide our wandering steps into the ways of truth and peace; for the sake of Thy only Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
