He had designed it in the first instance to be offered privately to his Parishioners, and it is now published in furtherance of his wishes and in the hope that it may prove an acceptable Memorial of his affection for his flock, as well as an assistance to them in forming and maintaining that habit of watchfulness and prayer which was exemplified in his own daily life, and which was undoubtedly the best preparation for the summons by which he has been so suddenly called away. To others too who had the happiness of being acquainted with the Author, this little work may be valuable as a memorial of a singleminded and faithful servant of Christ, who, with much earnestness, and unwearied diligence and patience, employed the talents which God had |
