Special Prayers.

NEW YEAR'S DAY.

ALMIGHTY GOD, we thank thee for having brought us safely to the beginning of a new year. Forgive our negligence in the year that is past, our misuse of thy mercies, and our misspent time. Give us grace to begin this year with renewed desires to serve thee, and to work out our salvation with increased diligence, that remembering how uncertain our time is, we may live prepared for our last change, and may finally be thine, through the mediation of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

UPON THE BIRTH OF A CHILD.

ALMIGHTY GOD, we give thee humble thanks for that thou hast vouchsafed to deliver thy servant (the mistress of this family) from the great pain and peril of child-birth; Grant, we beseech thee, most merciful Father, that she, through thy help, may both faithfully live, and walk according to thy will, in this life present; and also may be partaker of everlasting glory in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR A SICK PERSON.

ALMIGHTY GOD, and merciful Father, to

whom alone belong the issues of life and death; Look down from heaven, we humbly beseech thee, with the eyes of mercy upon thy servant now lying upon the bed of sickness: Visit him, O Lord, with thy salvation; deliver him in thy good appointed time from his bodily pain, and save his soul for thy mercies' sake: That, if it shall be thy pleasure to prolong his days here on earth, he may live to thee, and be an instrument of thy glory, by serving thee faithfully, and doing good in his generation; or else receive him into those heavenly habitations, where the souls of them that sleep in the Lord Jesus enjoy perpetual rest and felicity. Grant this, O Lord, for thy mercies' sake, in the same thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

A

RECOVERY FROM SICKNESS.

LMIGHTY and Everlasting GOD, to whom belong the issues of life and death; We bless thy great goodness towards thy servant lately raised from the bed of sickness. Grant, O Lord, to him and to us such a sense of thy goodness, as may lead us to dedicate ourselves, souls and bodies, to thy service all the rest of our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
