121.

6-6-6-6, 8-8.

JOIN all the glorious names

Of wisdom, love, and power,
That ever mortals knew,
That angels ever bore;

All are too mean to speak His worth,
Too mean to set my Saviour forth.

Great Prophet of my God,

My tongue would bless Thy name;
By Thee the joyful news

Of our salvation came:

The joyful news of sins forgiven,
Of hell subdued, and peace with heaven.

Jesus, my great High Priest,
Offered His blood and died;
My guilty conscience seeks
No sacrifice beside:

His powerful blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before the throne.

My advocate appears
For my defence on high;

The Father bows His ears
And lays His thunder by:
Not all that hell or sin can say
Shall turn His heart, His love away.

My dear Almighty Lord,

My Conqueror and my King,

Thy sceptre and Thy sword. Thy reigning grace I sing: Thine is the power, behold I sit

In willing bonds before Thy feet. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

GLORY, glory to our King!

Crowns unfading wreathe His head!

Jesus is the name we sing;

Jesus risen from the dead;

Jesus, conqueror o'er the grave;

Jesus, mighty now to save.

Jesus is gone up on high,

Angels come to meet their King; Shouts triumphant rend the sky, While the Victor's praise they sing:"Open now, ye heavenly gates, 'Tis the King of glory waits."

Now behold Him high enthron'd!
Glory beaming from His face!
By adoring angels own'd,

God of holiness and grace!

O, for hearts and tongues to sing,
Glory, glory to our King."

Jesus, on Thy people shine!

Warm our hearts, and tune our tongues,

[ocr errors]

That with angels we may join,

Share their bliss, and swell their songs;
Glory, honour, praise, and power,
Lord, be Thine for evermore! Amen.

[blocks in formation]

REDEEMER! now Thy work is done,
Death owns Thy power, the prize is won;
Triumphant now we see Thee rise,
Returning glorious to the skies.

A radiant cloud is now Thy seat,

And earth lies stretched beneath Thy feet;
Ten thousand thousands round Thee sing,
And share the triumphs of their King.

The angel host enraptured waits,
"Lift up your heads, eternal gates;"

O God-and-man! the Father's throne

Is now for evermore Thine own.

Our great High Priest and Shepherd Thou
Within the veil art entered now,

To offer there Thy precious Blood
Once poured on earth a cleansing flood.

And thence the Church, Thy chosen Bride,
With countless gifts of grace supplied,
Through all her members draws from Thee
Her hidden life of sanctity.

O Christ, our Lord, of Thy dear care,
Thy lowly members heavenward bear;
Be ours with Thee to suffer pain,
With Thee for evermore to reign. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,
And lighten with celestial fire;
Thou the anointing Spirit art,

Who dost Thy seven-fold gifts impart.

Thy blessed unction from above
Is comfort, life, and fire of love;
Enable with perpetual light
The dulness of our blinded sight.

Anoint and cheer our soiled face
With the abundance of Thy grace;
Keep far our foes, give peace at home;
Where Thou art guide, no ill can come.

Teach us to know the Father, Son,
And Thee of both, to be but One;
That, through the ages all along
This still may be our endless song:-
Praise to Thy eternal merit,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

SPIRIT OF TRUTH, on this Thy day
To Thee for help we cry,

To guide us through the dreary way
Of dark mortality.

We ask not, Lord, the cloven flame
Or tongues of various tone,
But long Thy praises to proclaim
With fervour in our own.

We mourn not that prophetic skill
Is found on earth no more:
Enough for us to trace Thy will
In Scripture's sacred lore.

We neither have nor seek the power
Ill demons to control,

But Thou in dark temptation's hour
Shall chase them from the soul.

No heavenly harpings soothe our ear,
No mystic dreams we share,
Yet hope to feel Thy comfort near,
And bless Thee in our prayer.

When tongues shall cease and power decay,
And knowledge empty prove,

Do Thou Thy trembling servants stay,
With Faith, with Hope, with Love.

Amen.
