Without a wish or thought
Abiding in the breast;

Save that His will be done,
Whate'er betide;
Dead to herself, and dead
In Him to all beside.

Thus would I live; yet now
Not I, but He
In all His power and love
Henceforth alive in me.

One Sacred Trinity!

One Lord Divine!

May I be ever His,

And He for ever mine. Amen.

GOD, Who madest earth and heaven,

Darkness and light;

Who the day for toil hast given,
For rest the night;

May Thine angel-guards defend us,
Slumber sweet Thy mercy send us,
Holy dreams and hopes attend us,
This live-long night.

Guard us waking, guard us sleeping,
And, when we die,

May we in Thy mighty keeping
All peaceful lie;

When the last dread call shall wake us
Do not Thou, our God, forsake us,
But to reign in glory take us
With Thee on high.

God the Father, Son, and Spirit,
Thee now we bless,

Thanks we give, and praise and merit,
To Thee address;

Ever in the new creation'
May we sing of Thy salvation,
And with joyful adoration

Thy love confess! Amen.

LORD OF LIFE, the guard and giver,
Blessed bé Thy náme for ever;

Thou who slumb'rest nót, nor sleepest,
Safe are those Thou kindly keepest.

Through night's curtains round us closing

Seen of Thée is our reposing;

Trustful then, though all unworthy,

Weary wé lie down before Thee.

Let Thine angels without number
Watch around our beds of slumber;
Guard from spirits of perdition,
Guilty thought, and évil vision."

Grant to those in páin, that languish,
Sleep to lull the sense of anguish;
Give to those in sorrow waking

Sleep to soothe the heart's sore aching.

Thou that ever wakeful livest,
Sleep to Thy' beloved givest,

Night by night, then, sénd to ease us
Sleep-until we sleep in Jesus. Amen.

SWEET SAVIOUR, bless us 'ere we go, Thy word into our minds instil, And make our lukewarm hearts to glow With lowly love and fervent will; Through life's long day and death's dark night, O, gentle Jesus, be our light.

The day is gone, its hours have run,

And Thou hast taken count of all,—
The scanty triumphs grace hath won,
The broken vow, the frequent fall;
Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O, gentle Jesus, be our light.

Grant us, dear Lord, from evil ways
True absolution and release,
And bless us more than in past days
With purity and inward peace;

Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O, gentle Jesus, be our light.

Do more than pardon-give us joy,
Sweet fear, and sober liberty,
And simple hearts without alloy
That only long to be like Thee;
Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O, gentle Jesus, be our light.

Labour is sweet for Thou hast toiled,
And care is light for Thou hast cared:
Ah! never let our works be soiled

With strife, or by deceit ensnared; Through life's long day and death's dark night, O, gentle Jesus, be our light.

For all we love, the poor, the sad,
The sinful, unto Thee we call:
O let Thy mercy make us glad,-

Thou art our Jesus, and our all;
Through life's long day and death's dark night,
O, gentle Jesus, be our light. Amen.

Lord's Day and Public Worship.

164.

7's.

On this day, the first of days,
God the Father's name we praise ;

Who, creation's fount and spring,
Did the world from darkness bring.

On this day th' Eternal Son
Over death His triumph won;
On this day the Spirit came
With His gifts of living flame.

O! that fervent love to-day
May in every heart have sway,
Teaching us to praise aright
God, the source of life and light.

Father, Who didst fashion me
Image of Thyself to be,

Fill me with Thy love divine,
Let my every thought be Thine.

Holy Jesus, may I be

Dead and buried here with Thee;
And, by love inflamed, arise
Unto Thee a sacrifice.

Thou Who dost all gifts impart,
Shine, sweet Spirit, in my heart;
Best of gifts Thyself bestow,
Make me burn Thy love to know.

God, the blessed Three in One,
Dwell within my heart alone;
Thou dost give Thyself to me,
May I give myself to Thee. Amen.
