Before the dawning day

Let sin's dark deeds be gone; "The old man" all be put away, "The new man " all put on.

All glory to the Son,
Who comes to set us free,
With Father, Spirit, ever One,
Through all eternity. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

HARK! a thrilling voice is sounding-
"Christ is nigh," it seems to say;
66 Cast away the dreams of darkness,
O ye children of the day."

Wakened by the solemn warning
Let the earthbound soul arise;
Christ, her Sun, all ill dispelling,
Shines upon the morning skies.

Lo! the Lamb so long expected
Comes with pardon down from heaven;
Let us haste, with tears of sorrow,
Through his blood to be forgiven.

That when next He comes with glory,
And the world is wrapt in fear,
With His mercy He may shield us,
And with words of love draw near.

Honour, glory, might, dominion,
To the Father and the Son,
With the Everlasting Spirit,
While eternal ages run. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

HARK the glad sound! the Saviour comes,
The Saviour promised long;

Let every heart prepare a throne,
And every voice a song!

He comes, the prisoners to release,
In Satan's bondage held:

The gates of brass before him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

He comes, from thickest films of vice
To clear the mental ray,
And on the eyeballs of the blind
To pour celestial day.

He comes, the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding soul to cure,
And with the treasures of His grace
To enrich the humble poor.

Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim,

And heaven's eternal arches ring
With Thy beloved name.

Amen.

4.

8-7, 8-7, 4-7.

Lo! He comes with clouds descending, Once for favoured sinners slain : Thousand thousand saints attending Swell the triumph of His train.

Alleluia !

God appears, on earth to reign!

Every eye shall now behold Him,
Robed in dreadful majesty :

Those who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree,

Deeply wailing,

Shall the true Messiah see.

Now Redemption, long expected,
See in solemn pomp appear!
All His saints, by man rejected,
Now shall meet Him in the air.
Alleluia !

See the day of God appear.

Still the tokens of His passion
See His dazzling body bear,
Cause of endless exultation
To each ransomed worshipper:
Here our refuge,
And our blissful vision there.

Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal throne;
Saviour, take the power and glory,
Claim the Kingdom for Thine own.
O, come quickly!

Everlasting God! come down. Amen.

5.

8-7, 8-7, 4-7.

SAVIOUR, hasten Thine appearing,
Take Thy waiting people home;
This sweet hope our spirits cheering
While we in the desert roam,
Makes Thy people

Strangers here till Thou dost come.

Lord, how long shall the creation
Groan and travail sore in pain,
Waiting for its sure salvation,
When Thou shalt in glory reign;
And like Eden

This sad earth shall bloom again?

Gather, Lord, Thy chosen nation,
Israel's long-afflicted race;
Let them find Thy free salvation,
Own and trust Thy wondrous grace ;
And, adoring,

Look on Thy once-marred face.

Reign, O, reign, Almighty Saviour!
Heaven and earth in one unite;
Make it known that in Thy favour
There alone is life and light;

When we see Thee,

We shall have unmix'd delight. Amen.

C. M.

BEHOLD the mountain of the Lord
In latter days shall rise

On mountain tops, above the hills,
And draw the wondering eyes.

To this the joyful nations round,
All tribes and tongues shall flow;
Up to the hill of God, they'll say,
And to His house we'll go.

The beam that shines from Zion hill
Shall lighten every land,

The King who reigns in Salem's towers
Shall all the world command.

No strife shall vex Messiah's reign,
Or mar the peaceful years;

To ploughshares men shall beat their swords,
To pruning-hooks their spears.

Come then! O come from every land
To worship at His shrine,
