Our praise and prayer and anthems
To Thee before Thy Passion
They sang their hymns of praise;
To Thee, now high exalted,
All glory, &c.
Thou didst accept their praises,
Who in all good delightest,
All glory, &c. Amen.

Hosanna! raise the pealing hymn
To David's Son ana Lord! With cherubim and seraphim
Exalt the Incarnate Word.
Hosanna! Lord, our feeble tongue
No lofty strains can raise, But Thou wilt not despise the young
Who meekly chant Thy praise.
Hosanna! Sovereign, Prophet, Priest, How vast Thy gifts, how free!
Thy Blood our life, Thy word our feast, Thy Name our only plea.
Hosanna! Master, lo! we bring
"Not gold nor myrrh, nor mortal thing,
Hosanna! once Thy gracious ear
Approved a lisping throng,
Our poor but grateful song.
O Saviour! if redeemed by Thee
Thy temple we behold, Hosannas through eternity
We'll sing to harps of gold. Amen.

When I survey the wondrous Cross
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
See, from His head, His hands, His feet,
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
To Christ, Who won for sinners grace
O Head! so full of bruises,
So full of pain and scorn;
Mock'd with a crown of thorn'
With brightest majesty,
Accursed on the tree!
Thou countenance transcendent,
Thou life-creating Sun,
Yet bruised and spit upon 1
O Lord! what Thee tormented
We had the debt augmented
And, O! what consolation
Doth in our hearts take place, When we Thy toil and passion
Can joyfully retrace; Ah! should we, while thus musing
On our Redeemer's cross, E'en life itself be losing,
Great gain would be that loss.
We give Thee thanks unfeigned,
O Jesu! Friend in need, For what Thy soul sustained,
When Thou for us didst bleed;
Upon Thy faithfulness,
We see Thee face to face. Amen.

O Come and mourn with me awhile;
Have we no tears to shed for Him,
How fast His hands and feet are nailed;
Seven times He spake, seven words of love,
Come, let us stand beneath the cross,
A broken heart, a fount of tears,

Behold the Saviour of mankind
How vast the love that Him inclined
