Hath joys substantial and sincere :
When shall I wake, and find me there?
O glorious hour! O blest abode!
I shall be near and like my God;
And flesh and sin no more control
The sacred pleasures of my soul.

4 My flesh shall slumber in the ground,
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst the chains with sweet surprise,
And in my Saviour's image rise.

PSALM XVIII.

PART FIRST.

C. M.

Cératituds for Deliverance in Answer to Prayer. 1 () GOD, my strength and fortitude, Of force I must love thee;

Thou art my castle and defence
In my necessity.

My God, my rock, in whom I trust,
The worker of my wealth,

My refuge, buckler, and my shield,
The horn of all my health.

When I sing laud unto the Lord,
Most worthy to be serv'd;
Then from my foes I am right sure
That I shall be preserv'd.

4 The pangs of death did compass me,
And bound me ev'ry where ;
The flowing waves of wickedness
Did put me in great fear.

5 I, thus beset with pain and grief,
Did pray to God for grace;
And he forthwith heard my complaint
Out of his holy place.

1 THE Lord descended from above, And bow'd the heavens high ;

And underneath his feet he cast
The darkness of the sky.

2 On cherubs and on cherubims
Full royally he rode,

And on the wings of mighty winds
Came flying all abroad.

3 He brought me forth in open place, That so I might be free;

And kept me safe, because he had
A favour unto me.

God's Glory manifested in Creation-his Grace
in his Word.

1 THE heav'ns declare thy glory, Lord,
Which that alone can fill;
The firmament and stars express
Their great Creator's skill.

2 The dawn of each returning day
Fresh beams of knowledge brings;
From darkest night's successive rounds
Divine instruction springs.

3 God's perfect law converts the soul,
Reclaims from false desires;
With sacred wisdom his sure word
The ignorant inspires.

4 The statutes of the Lord are just,
And bring sincere delight:

His pure commands in search of truth,
Assist the feeblest sight.

God's Word most excellent.

1 BEHOLD the morning sun, Begins his glorious way!

His beams through all the nations run,
And life and light convey.

2 But where the gospel comes,
It spreads diviner light;
It calls dead sinners from their tombs,
And gives the blind their sight.

3 How perfect is thy word!
And all thy judgments just;
For ever sure thy promise, Lord,
And men securely trust.

0!

4 My gracious God, how plain
Are thy directions giv'n!

may I never read in vain,
But find the path to heaven!

PSALM XIX,

THIRD VERSION.

1 THE spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,
And spangled heav'ns, a shining frame,
Their great Original proclaim:
Th' unwearied sun, from day to day,
Does his Creator's pow'r display,
And publishes to ev'ry land
The work of an almighty hand.
