PSALM XXV. S. M. A Prayer for Pardon and Mercy, with a Declaration 1 THY mercies and thy love, And graciously continue still, 2 Let all my youthful crimes And for thy wondrous goodness' sake. 3 Since mercy is the grace Forgive my heinous sins, O Lord, 4 His mercy and his truth The righteous Lord displays, In bringing wand'ring sinners home, 5 He those in justice guides, Who his direction seek; And in his sacred paths shall lead Self-examination; or, Evidences of Grace. 1 JUDGE me, O Lord, and prove my ways, And try reins and try my heart; My faith upon thy promise stays, Nor from thy law my feet depart. 2 Amongst thy saints will I appear With hands well wash'd in innocence: But when I stand before thy bar, The blood of Christ is my defence. 3 I love thy habitation, Lord, The temple where thine honours dwell; 4 Let not my soul be join'd at last FIRST VERSION. The Way and End of the Righteous and the Wicked. 1 BLESS' D is the man who shuns the place Where sinners love to meet; Who fears to tread their wicked ways, 2 But in the statutes of the Lord By day he reads or hears the word, 3 Green as the leaf, and ever fair, 4 Not so the impious and unjust; When Christ, the Judge, at his right hand The Establishment of Messiah's Kingdom in Spite of human Opposition. 1 WHY did the Gentiles rage, 2 Rulers and kings agree, Against the Lord their pow'rs unite, 3 The Lord derides their rage, 4 Be wise, ye rulers, now, And worship at his throne; With trembling joy, ye people, bow 5 If once his wrath arise, A call to the World to submit to Messiah. 1 LEARN now, ye princes, and give ear, 2 Appease the Son with due respect, 3 If but in part his anger rise, Then bless'd are they, whose hope relies PSALM III.
