When thou return'st to set them free,
Let thy salvation visit me.

5 O may I worthy prove to see
Thy saints in full prosperity;
That I the joyful choir may join,
And count thy people's triumphs mine!

PSALM CVI. S. M.

SECOND VERSION.

Israel punished and pardoned. 1 GOD of eternal love!

How fickle are our ways!

And yet, how oft did Isr'el prove
Thy constancy of grace!

2 They saw thy wonders wrought,
And then thy praise they sung;
But soon thy works of pow'r forgot,
And murmur'd with their tongue.

3 Yet when they mourn'd their faults, He hearken'd to their groans; Brought his own cov'nant to his thoughts, And call'd them still his sons.

4 Their names were in his book:
He sav'd them from their foes:

Oft he chastis'd, but ne'er forsook,
The people that he chose.

5 Let Isr'el bless the Lord,
Who lov'd their ancient race;
And Christians join the solemn word,
Amen, to all the praise.

[blocks in formation]

Praise to God for Deliverance.

1 GIVE thanks to God: he reigns above: Kind are his thoughts; his name his love;

His mercy ages past have known,
And ages long to come shall own.

2 Let the redeemed of the Lord

The wonders of his grace record;
Isr'el, the nation whom he chose,
And rescu'd from their mighty foes.

3 In their distress to God they cry'd,
God was their Saviour and their guide;
He led their march far wand'ring round :
"I'was the right path to Canaan's ground.

4 O let the saints with joy record

The truth and goodness of the Lord!
How great his works! how kind his ways!
Let ev'ry tongue pronounce his praise.

PSALM CVIII. C. M.

A sims Ressention to praise God.

1) GOD, my heart prepared is, My tongue is likewise so ;

I w

advance my voice to sing,
That I thy praise may shew.

2 Awake, my viol and my harp,
Sweet melody to make;
And in the morning I myself,
Right early will awake.

3 By me, among the people, Lord,
Still praised thou shalt be;
Yea I among the people round
Will praises sing to thee.

4 Because thy mercy doth ascend,
Above the heav'ns most high;
Thy truth doth also reach the clouds,
Within the lofty sky.

5 Above the starry heavens high,
Exalt thyself, O God;

Display likewise upon the earth
Thy glory all abroad.

[blocks in formation]

GOD of my mercy and my praise,
Thy glory is my song;
Though sinners speak against thy grace.
With a blaspheming tongue.

2 When in the form of mortal man
Thy Son on earth was found;
With cruel slanders, false and vain,
They compass'd him around.

3 Their mis'ries his compassion move;
Their peace he still pursu'd:
They render hatred for his love,
And evil for his good.

4 Their malice rag'd without a cause;
Yet, with his dying breath,

He pray'd for murd'rers on his cross,
And bless'd his foes in death.

5 Lord, shall thy bright example shine
In vain before my eyes?

Give me a soul akin to thine,
To love mine enemies.
