Only thou our Leader be,
And we still will follow thee.

HYMN LXIII. L. M.

Christ dwelling in us by Faith.

COME, dearest Lord, descend and dwell
By faith and love in ev'ry breast;
Then shall we know, and taste, and feel,
The joys that cannot be express'd.
Come, fill our hearts with inward strength;
Make our enlarged souls possess,

And learn the height, and breadth, and length,

Of thine immeasurable grace.

Now to the God whose pow'r can do More than our thoughts or wishes know, Be everlasting honours done,

By all the church, through Christ his Son.

[blocks in formation]

Faith mixed with Unbelief.

JESUS, our souls' delightful choice,
In thee believing, we rejoice;
Yet still our joy is mix'd with grief,
While faith contends with unbelief.
Thy promises our hearts revive,
And keep our fainting hopes alive;

we would be always blessing, ve thee as thy hosts above,

and praise thee without ceasing, ɔry in thy precious love.

h, Lord, thy new creation: ire, unspotted may we be; us see our full salvation erfectly secur'd in thee: ng'd from glory into glory, 'ill in heav'n our songs we raise, i we cast our crowns before thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

VHEN all thy mercies, O my God, My rising soul surveys; 'ransported with the view I'm lost

In wonder, love, and praise.

Thy providence my life sustain’'d,
And all my wants redress'd;
When in the silent womb I lay,
And hung upon the breast.

Unnumber'd comforts to my soul
Thy tender care bestow'd,

K

Before my infant heart conceiv'd

From whom those comforts flow'd.

4 When in the slipp'ry paths of youth
With heedless steps I ran ;

Thine arm unseen convey'd me safe
And led me on to man.

5 When worn by sickness, oft hast thou
With health renew'd my face;
And, when in sins and sorrow sunk,
Reviv'd my soul with grace.

6 Through ev'ry period of my life,
Thy goodness I'll pursue;
And after death in distant worlds,
The glorious theme renew.

1 My dear Redeemer and my Lord!
I read my duty in thy word;

But in thy life the law appears
Drawn out in living characters.

2 Such was thy truth, and such thy zeal,
Such def'rence to thy Father's will,
Such love and meekness so divine,
I would transcribe and make them mine.

Cold mountains and the midnight air
Witness'd the fervour of thy pray'r;
The desert thy temptations knew,
Thy conflict and thy vict'ry too.

Be thou my pattern; make me bear
More of thy gracious image here:
Then God the Judge shall own my name
Amongst the foll'wers of the Lamb.

HYMN LXVIII.

Victory over Death.

O FOR an overcoming faith

C. M.

To cheer my dying hours;
To triumph o'er the monster death,
And all his frightful pow'rs!

2 Joyful with all the strength I have,
My quiv'ring lips should sing,
Where is thy boasted vict'ry, grave?
And where the monster's sting?

3 If sin be pardon'd, I'm secure ;
Death has no sting beside:
The law gives sin its damning pow'r ;
But Christ, my ransom, died.

4 Now to the God of victory
Immortal thanks be paid,
