ie, 'tis a strait and thorny road,
And mortal spirits tire and faint;
t they forget the mighty God,
That feeds the strength of ev'ry saint.

he mighty God, whose matchless pow'r
Is ever new and ever young,

nd firm endures while endless years
Their everlasting circles run.

"rom thee, the overflowing Spring

Our souls shall drink a fresh supply ; While such as trust their native strength Shall melt away, and droop, and die.

Swift as an eagle cuts the air,

We'll mount aloft to thine abode; On wings of love our souls shall fly, Nor tire amidst the heav'nly road.

HYMN LXXXII. C. M.

Justification by Faith not by Works.

I VAIN are the hopes the sons of men
On their own works have built;
Their hearts by nature are unclean,
And all their actions guilt.

2 Let Jew and Gentile stop their mouths Without a murm'ring word;

Am de rivie race of Adam stand
Saut bere the Lord.

33 ve God's righteous law

Sacs V ZAVnce and to condemn
sa de law can do.

€ Lests, new glorious is thy grace!
When my name we trust,
Our iu receives a righteousness
That makes the sinner just.

HYMN LXXXIII.

The Pilgrim's Prayer.

P. M.

1 GUIDE me, O thou great Jehovah, Prim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold me with thy pow'rful hand: Bread of heaven! bread of heaven: Feed me now and evermore.

2 Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing streams do flow; Let the fiery cloudy pillar

Lead me all my journey through: Strong Deliv❜rer! strong Deliv❜rer! Bou still my Strength and Shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Bear me through the swelling torrent;
Land me safe on Canaan's side :
Songs of praises-songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee.

Musing on my habitation,
Musing on my heav'nly home,
Fills my soul with holy longing;
Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come :
Vanity is all I see :

Lord, I long to be with thee!

HYMN LXXXIV. L. M. Crucifixion to the World by the Cross of Christ. WHEN I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.

2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the cross of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most I sacrifice them to his blood.

3 See! from his head, his hands, his feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down ;

Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small:
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

HYMN LXXXV.

Christ is precious.

C. M.

1 THE Saviour! O what endless charms
Dwell on the blissful sound!
Its influence ev'ry fear disarms,
And spreads sweet comforts round.

2 Here pardon, life, and joys divine,
In rich effusion flow,

For guilty rebels lost in sin,
And doom'd to endless woe.

3 Th' Almighty Former of the skies
Stoop'd to our vile abode;

While angels view'd with wond'ring eyes,
And hail'd th' incarnate God!

4 O the rich depths of love divine!
Of bliss a boundless store!

Dear Saviour, let me call thee mine;
I cannot wish for more!
