2 The last great day shall change the scene: When will that hour appear?

When shall the just revive, and reign
O'er all that scorn'd them here?

3 God will my naked soul receive
When sep'rate from the flesh;
And break the prison of the grave,
To raise my bones afresh.

4 Heav'n is my everlasting home;
Th' inheritance is sure:

Let men of pride their rage resume,
But I'll repine no more.

PSALM L. . P. M.

God the awful Judge.

A New Version adapted to the original Tune.

1 THE mighty God, the God that rules on

high,

His voice has issu'd from the lofty sky!
From east to west he sends his solemn call,
Summons the nations of this earthly ball;
In awful pomp he comes: while sinners
tremble,

To earth, to heav'n he calls, "Attend-
Assemble."

2 "Hear," saith the Judge, "my people's

guilt appears: [bears: "Isr'el, thy God against thee witness "No lack of sacrifice provokes mine ire, "No blood of goats or bullocks I desire; "(The beasts, the birds are mine, are all before me,)

"The claim I make, is, 'Let thy heart adore me.'

3" To God thy tribute pay, thy vow perform, "So shall he save thee from each threat'ning storm;

"But why profess, vain wretch, my law to
choose;
[pursues?
"While yet thy heart each wickedness
"I know thy guilt: transgressions with-
out number,

"Mine eye beholds, nor shall my ven-
geance slumber."

4 O hearken then, consider, and be wise, Ye that forget him, and his laws despise ; None can preserve you, if his anger burn, None shall offend you, if to him you turn Who serve him truly, on his grace de pending,

These have rich blessings on their heads descending.

Confession of Sin, original and actual.
I HAVE mercy, Lord, on me,
As thou wert ever kind;

Let me, oppress'd with loads of guilt,
Thy wonted mercy find.

2 In guilt each part was form'd,
Of all this sinful frame;
In guilt I was conceiv'd and born,
The heir of sin and shame.

3 Blot out my crying sins,
Nor me in anger view;
Create in me a heart that's clean,
An upright mind renew.

4 Withdraw not thou thy help,
Nor cast me from thy sight;
Nor let thy Holy Spirit take,
His everlasting fight.

PSALM LI.

L. M.

SECOND VERSION.

A Penitent pleading for Pardon.

1 SHEW pity, Lord: O Lord, forgive: Let a repenting rebel live:

Are not thy mercies large and free?
May not a sinner trust in thee?

2 My crimes are great, but don't surpass.
The pow'r and glory of thy grace:
Great God! thy nature hath no bound;
So let thy pard'ning love be found.
3 O wash my soul from ev'ry sin,
And make my guilty conscience clean:
Here on my heart the burden lies,
And past offences pain my eyes.
4 My lips with shame my sins confess
Against thy law, against thy grace :
Lord, should thy judgment grow severe,
I am condemn'd, but thou art clear.;
5 Yet save a trembling sinner, Lord;
Whose hope, still hov'ring round thy word,
Would light on some sweet promise there,
Some sure support against despair.

PSALM LII. C. M.

The Destruction of the Wicked foretold the blessed
Hope of the Godly.

1 IN vain do lawless men of might
Exult and boast in ill;

Since God, the God in whom I trust,
Vouchsafes his favour still.

2 God shall for ever blast their hopes,
And snatch them soon away;

Nor in their dwelling-place permit,
Nor in the world to stay.

3 But I am like those olive-plants,

That shade God's temple round;
And hope with his indulgent grace
To be for ever crown'd.

4 So shall my soul with praise, O God,
Extol thy wondrous love;

And on thy name with patience wait,
For this thy saints approve.
