And let thy mercy to my grief
In full sufficience yield relief.

PSALM LXIX.

SECOND VERSION.

L. M.

Christ's Passion, and Sinners' Salvation.

DEEP in our hearts let us record
The deeper sorrows of our Lord;

Behold! the rising billows roll,
To overwhelm his holy soul.

2 In long complaints he spends his breath, While hosts of hell, and pow'rs of death, And all the sons of malice join,

'T'o execute their curs'd design.

3 Yet, gracious God, thy pow'r and love
Have made the curse a blessing prove;
Those dreadful suff'rings of thy Son
Aton'd for sins which we had done.

4 The pangs of our expiring Lord
The honours of thy law restor❜d;
His sorrows made thy justice known,
And paid for follies not his own.
5 O for his sake our guilt forgive,
And let the mourning sinner live;
The Lord will hear us in his name,
Nor shall our hope be turn'd to shame.

PSALM LXX. S. M.

Shame the Portion of God's Enemies-Happiness the
Portion of his People.

1 GOD will confound them all,
Who do oppose his will;

They shall be turned back and fall,
That wish his people ill.

2 But those shall blessed be
With joy and godly wealth,
Who only trust, and seek to thee,
And to thy saving health.

3 They shall their voices raise,
And say with one accord,
All glory, honour, laud, and praise,
Be given to the Lord.

Christ our Strength and Righteousness.

1 MY Saviour, my Almighty Friend, When I begin thy praise,

Where will the growing numbers end, The numbers of thy grace?

2 Thou art my everlasting trust; Thy goodness I adore

e;

And since I knew thy graces first,
I speak thy glories more.

3 My feet shall travel all the length
Of the celestial road,

And march with courage in thy strength
To see my Father, God.

4 How will my lips rejoice to tell
The vict'ries of my King!

[ocr errors]

My soul redeem'd from sin and hell,
Shall thy salvation sing.

Through endless years shall run;
His spotless name shall shine as bright
And lasting as the sun.

2 In him the nations of the world
Shall be completely bless'd;
And his unbounded happiness
By ev'ry tongue confess'd.

3 Then bless'd be God, the mighty Lord, The God whom Isr'el fears;

Who only wondrous in his works
Beyond compare appears.

4 Let earth be with his glory fill'd,
For ever bless his name;
Whilst to his praise the list'ning world,
Their glad assent proclaim.

Christ's Kingdom among the Gentiles.

1 JESUS shall reign where'er the sun
Does his successive journies run ;

His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

? For him shall endless pray'r be made,
And princes throng to crown his head;
His name like sweet perfume shall rise
With ev'ry morning sacrifice.

People and realms of ev'ry tongue
Dwell on his love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.

1 Hlessings abound where'er he reigns;
The prisner leaps to lose his chains;
The weary find eternal rest;

At all the sons of want are bless'd.
