FOR LITTLE CHILDREN.

REAVENLY Father, teach me to pray, for I am a little child, and cannot tell what to ask for. May Thy Holy Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Pardon all my sins for Jesus Christ's sake, and send Thy Holy Spirit into my heart to make me good. Help me to honour my dear parents, to love my brothers and sisters, and to obey my teachers. Keep me from all evil. Lead me, and give me what is best for me. I thank Thee for Thy goodness to me this day. Take me and all who are dear to me under Thy loving care this night. Keep me, O keep me, King of kings, beneath Thine own Almighty wings. When I rise in the morning may I try to please Thee, and be obedient, gentle and kind to everyone. I ask all for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

O Lord, my loving Father, I come to Thee to thank Thee for Thy great love to me Thy child. Pardon my sins. Make and keep me pure and good. Give me Samuel's ear, that I may hear and obey Thy call. Give me Samuel's heart that by day and night I may watch at Thy gates. Like young Timothy may I know and love Thy Holy Word. Be Thou the guide of my youth. Blessed Saviour I thank Thee for having called little children to Thyself, and feel that I, a little child, may come too. Bless me also, and make me a blessing. May I love and serve Thee all my days, and go at last to heaven. Amen.

[For a Sick Child.]

O Loving Jesus, who lovest little children, and Thyself didst live as a little child upon earth, have mercy upon Thy child now laid upon the bed of sickness. O Thou Good Shepherd, Who carest for the lambs of Thy flock, bring this child safely through the time of sickness and danger. If he lives, may he live to Thy glory; if he dies, may he die in thy love. Amen.

Home.

I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord.-GEN. 18. 19.

She looketh well to the ways of her household ; her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.-PROV. 31. 27, 28.

HAPPY home, where Thou art loved the best,
Dear Friend and Saviour of our race,

Where never comes such welcome, honoured Guest,
Where none can ever fill Thy place;
Where every heart goes forth to meet Thee,
Where every ear attends Thy Word,
Where every lip with blessing greets Thee.
Where all are waiting on their Lord.

O happy home, where man and wife in heart,
In faith, and hope are one,

That neither life nor death can ever part
The holy union here begun.

O happy home, whose little ones are given

Early to Thee, in humble faith and prayer,

To Thee, their Friend, who from the heights of heaven
Guides and guards with more than mother's care.

O happy home, where Thou art not forgot
When joy is flowing full and free;

O happy home, where every wound is brought,
Physician, Comforter, to Thee.

Until at last, earth's day's work ended,

All meet Thee in the blessed Home above

From whence Thou camest, where Thou hast ascended, Thy everlasting Home of peace and love.

C. J. P. Spitta.

Merciful Lord, who didst love Martha and Mary and Lazarus, blessing their home with Thy sacred presence; bless, we beseech Thee, this our home, that Thy love may rest upon us, and that Thy promised presence may be with us. May we all grow in grace and in knowledge of Thee, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Teach us to love one another, as Thou didst give us commandment; and may we all choose that better part, which shall not be taken away from us. Hear us, O Jesus, who, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, livest and reignest one God for evermore.-Amen. [Bp. Walsham How.]

Holy Baptism.

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; the Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: the Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.-NUMBERS 6. 24-26.

"We receive this Child into the congregation of Christ's flock, and do sign him with the sign of the Cross, in token that hereafter he shall not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified, and manfully to fight under His banner, against sin, the world, and the devil; and to continue Christ's faithful soldier and servant unto his life's end. Amen." BAPTISMAL SERVICE.

IN

N token that thou shalt not fear
Christ crucified to own,

We print the cross upon thee here,
And stamp thee His alone.

In token that thou shalt not blush
To glory in His Name,

We blazon here upon thy front
His glory and His shame.

In token that thou shalt not flinch
Christ's quarrel to maintain,
But 'neath His banner manfully
Firm at thy post remain;

In token that thou too shalt tread
The path He travelled by;
Endure the cross, despise the shame,

And sit thee down on high;

Thus outwardly and visibly

We seal thee for His own;

And may the brow that wears His cross
Hereafter share His Crown!

Dean Alford.

Almighty and everlasting God, we beseech Thee, for Thine infinite mercies, that Thou wilt mercifully look upon this Child; wash him and sanctify him with the Holy Ghost; that he, being delivered from Thy wrath, may be received into the ark of Christ's Church; and being steadfast in faith, joyful through hope, and rooted in charity, may so pass the waves of this troublesome world, that finally he may come to the land of everlasting life, there to reign with Thee world without end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confirmation.

Who is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord ?-1. CHRON. 29. 5.

"The last night of my visit I was too happy to sleep, and passed most of the night in praise and renewal of my own consecration, and these couplets formed themselves and chimed in my heart one after another, till they finished with 'Ever, only, all, for Thee.'"-F.R.H.

TAKE my life, and let it be

Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasured store.
Take myself, and I will be,
Ever, only, ALL, for Thee.

F. R. Havergal.

Thy vows are upon me, O Lord. I am Thy servant, hold Thou me up, and I shall be safe. Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips. Defend me with Thy heavenly grace, that I may continue Thine for ever, and daily increase in Thy Holy Spirit more and more, until I come unto Thy everlasting kingdom. Amen.

Jesus said: This do in remembrance of Me.ST. LUKE 22. 19.

"Regard the outward signs (the bread and wine) reverently but not superstitiously; use them as means not ends; symbols not idols. Feed on Him (not on them) in thine heart, (not with thy mouth); by faith (not by sight) with thanksgiving."-DEAN VAUGHAN.

HERE, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face;

Here faith can touch and handle things unseen;
Here would I grasp with firmer hand Thy grace,
And all my weariness upon Thee lean.

Here would I feed upon the bread of God;
Here drink with Thee the royal wine of heaven;
Here would I lay aside each earthly load,
Here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven.
I have no help but Thine; nor do I need
Another arm save Thine to lean upon;
It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed;

My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone.
Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness;
Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood:
Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace-
Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord, my God.
Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear;

The feast, though not the love, is pass'd and gone,
The bread and wine remove, but Thou art here—
Nearer than ever-still my Shield and Sun.
Feast after feast thus comes and passes by;
Yet passing, points to the glad Feast above;

Giving sweet foretastes of the festal joy,

The Lamb's great Bridal Feast of bliss and love.

Dr. H. Bonar.

To the end that we should alway remember the exceeding great love of our Master, and only Saviour, Jesus Christ, thus dying for us, and the innumerable benefits which by His precious blood-shedding He hath obtained to us; He hath instituted and ordained holy mysteries, as pledges of His love, and for a continual remembrance of His death, to our great and endless comfort. To Him therefore, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, let us give (as we are most bounden) continual thanks; submitting ourselves wholly to His holy will and pleasure, and studying to serve Him in true holiness and righteousness all the days of our life. Amen.
