CRUCIFIXION.

WHE
HEN I furvey the wond'rous cross,

On which the Prince of Glory dy'd,

My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I fhould boaft

Save in the death of Chrift, my God, All the vain things that charm me most I facrifice them to thy blood.

See from his head, his hands, his feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down,
Did e'er fuch love or forrow meet,

Or thorns compofe fo rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were a prefent far too small ;
Love fo amazing, fo divine,
Demands my foul, my life, my all.

JUDG

JUDGMENT.

THE Judge of all fhall foon

come down Bright on his everlasting throne;

Summons the nations to his bar,
And I shall take my trial there.

Jefus be now my friend with God,
And wath me in thy cleansing blood;
That at the laft appearance I,
May shortly meet thee in the fky.

MELODY.

ORD! that I

may fing to thee

And make the sweeteft melody,

Bid my foul in hymns afpire,

Echo to the Pfalmift's lyre.

Tune my heart to praise the Lamb,

Jefus his harmonious name;

And when thou doft from earth remove,

Give me a golden harp above!.

INNO

COME

INNOCENCE.

NOME let us join the host above
Now in our youngest days;

Remember our Creator's love,
And lifp our Father's praise.

His Majefty will not defpife
The day of feeble things;
Grateful the fongs of children rife,
And praise the King of Kings.

We all his kind protection share,
Within his arms we reft:
The fucklings are his tender care
While hanging on the breast.

We praise him with a stammering tongue,
While under his defence.-
He fmiles to hear the artlefs fongs
Of childish innocence.

He loves to be remembered thus;
And honoured for his grace;
Out of the mouths of babes like us
His wisdom perfects praise.

Glory to God, and praise and power,
Honour and thanks be given,

Children and cherubin adore
The Lord of earth and heaven.

JORDAN.

JORDAN.

UIDE me, O thou great Jehovah—
Pilgrim through this barren land,

I am weak, but thou art mighty
Hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven!

Feed me till I want no more,

When I poffefs the banks of Jordan
Bid my anxious fears fubfide;
Death of deaths and hell's deftruction,
Land me fafe on Canaan's fide,

Strong Deliverer!

Be thou ftill my ftrength and shield.

FUNERAL.

Arewell! dear friend! a long farewell;
For we fhall meet no more,
Till we are raised with thee to dwell
On Zion's happier shore.

Our Friend and brother, lo! is dead;
The cold and lifeless clay

Has made in duft its filent bed,
And there it must decay.

But

But is he dead? No! no! he lives;
His nobler fpirit flies

To Heaven above, and there receives
The long expected prize.

Methinks I fee him joyful ftand
Before the God of heaven:
He fmiles. He enters Zion's land;
And his reward is given.

In robes of innocence and love
His fpotlefs foul is dreft,
And all the angel hofts above
Rejoice to fee him bleft.

Then let us dry our mournful tears,
From gloomy grief refrain;
In heaven our brother now appears,
And fhall for ever reign.

A little while and we shall go
To yonder happy skies,

And join our friend we lov'd below,
In everlasting joys.

Farewell! dear friend! again farewell!
Soon we fhall rife to thee;

And when we meet no tongue can tell
How great our joys fhall be.
