2 Eternal are Thy mercies Lord; Eternal truth attends Thy word;

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,
Till suns shall rise and set no more.

[blocks in formation]

1 GLORY, honour, praise, and power,

Be unto the Lamb for ever!
Jesus Christ is our Redeemer:
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord.

147.

Pleasing Praise.

1 LORD, by every minstrel tongue,
Be Thy praise so duly sung,
That the angels' harps may ne'er
Fail to find fit echoing here.
Childlike though the voices be,
And untunable the parts,
Thou wilt own the minstrelsy,
If it flow from childlike hearts.

LORD, our everlasting God,

L.M.

Bliss, greatness, power, and praise is Thine,
With Thee have conquests their abode,
And glorious majesty divine.

2 All things that heaven and earth afford,
Thou at Thine own disposing hast:
To Thee belongs the kingdom, Lord,
And Thou, for Head, o'er all art plac'd.

3 And now to Thee our God, therefore,
A song of thankfulness we frame;
That what we owe we may restore,
And glorify Thy glorious name.

4 But what, or who are we, alas,
That we in giving are so free!
Thine own before, our off'ring was,
And all we have, we have from Thee.

5 Oh God, Thou prov'st the heart, we know,
And dost desire uprightness there;
With gladness, therefore, we bestow
What we have freely offer'd here.

6 Lord, give us perfect hearts, we pray,
That we Thy precepts err not from !
And grant our praise and service may
An honour to Thy name become.

Praise.

HOW shall I sing that Majesty
Which angels do admire?

Let dust, in dust and silence lie,—
Sing, sing, ye heavenly choir.

2 They sing because Thou art their sun;
Lord, send a beam on me;

For where'er heaven is once begun
There hallelujahs be.

3 Enlighten, with faith's light, my heart,
Inflame it with love's fire;

Then shall I sing and bear a part
With that celestial choir.

C.M.

4 I fear I shall be dark and cold,
With all my fire and light;

Yet, when Thou dost accept their gold,
Lord, treasure up my mite.

5 Mercy is Thy memorial;
And, in all ages praised,

My God, Thine only Son did fall,
That mercy might be raised.

6 Thy glorious goodness, God of grace,
I humbly here adore;

Show me Thy glory and Thy face,
That I may praise Thee more.

66 As seeing Him who is invisible." L.M.

1 ETERNAL and immortal King!

Thy peerless splendours none can bear; But darkness veils seraphic eyes,

When God with all His lustre's there, 2 Yet faith can pierce the awful gloom, The great Invisible can see:

And, with its tremblings, mingle joy
In fixed regards, great God, to Thee.
3 Then every tempting form of sin,
Sham'd in Thy presence, disappears;
And all the glowing, raptured soul
The likeness it contemplates-wears.
4 O ever-conscious to my heart!
Witness to its supreme desire!
Behold it presseth on to Thee,
For it hath caught the heavenly fire.

5 This one petition would I urge,-
To bear Thee ever in its sight;

In life, in death, in worlds unknown,
Its only portion and delight.

Go

God is Love.

OD is love: His mercy brightens
All the path in which we rove;
Bliss He wakes and woe He lightens;
God is wisdom, God is love.

2 Chance and change are busy ever;
Man decays, and ages move;
But His mercy waneth never;
God is wisdom, God is love.

3 E'en the hour that darkest seemeth

Will His changeless goodness prove;
From the mist His brightness streameth;
God is wisdom, God is love.

4 He with earthly cares entwineth
Hope and comfort from above:
Every where His glory shineth;
God is wisdom, God is love.
