2 The church triumphant in Thy love, Their mighty joys we know:

[ocr errors]

They sing the Lamb in hymns above,
And we in hymns below.

3 Thee, in Thy glorious realm, they praise,
And bow before Thy throne!
We, in the kingdom of Thy grace;
The kingdoms are but one.

4 The holy to the holiest leads;
From hence our spirits rise:
And he that in Thy statutes treads,
Shall meet Thee in the skies.

Christ's blessed Reign.

1 JESUS shall reign where'er the sun

Does His successive journeys run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

2 People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His name.
3 Blessings abound where'er He reigns;
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains;
The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are bless'd.
4 Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honours to our King;
Angels descend with songs again.
And earth repeat the long Amen.

1

The Kingdom of Christ.

BEHOLD! the mountain of the Lord

In latter days shall rise
On mountain tops above the hills,
And draw the wond'ring eyes.
2 To this the joyful nations round,

All tribes and tongues, shall flow; "Up to the hill of God," they'll say, "And to His house we'll go."

3 The beam that shines from Zion hill
Shall lighten ev'ry land;

The King who reigns in Salem's tow'rs
Shall all the world command.

C.M.

4 No strife shall rage, nor hostile feuds
Disturb those peaceful years;
To ploughshares men shall beat their swords,
To pruning-hooks their spears.

5 No longer hosts encount'ring hosts
Shall crowds of slain deplore;

They hang the trumpet in the hall,
And study war no more.

6 Come then, O house of Jacob! come
To worship at His shrine;

And walking in the light of God,
With holy beauties shine.

261.

The City of God.

1 HOW glorious Zion's courts appear, The city of our God!

C.M.

His throne He hath established here,
Here fixed His loved abode.

2 Lift up the everlasting gates,
The doors wide open fling;
Enter, ye nations, who obey
The statutes of our King.

3 Here shall ye taste unmingled joys
And dwell in perfect peace;
Ye who have known Jehovah's name,
And trusted in His grace.

4 Trust in the Lord, for ever trust,
And banish all your fears;
Strength in the Lord Jehovah dwells
Eternal as His years.

LE

The Christian Family.

ET saints below in concert join
With those to glory gone;
For all the servants of our King
In heav'n and earth are one.

2 One family, we dwell in Him;
One church, above, beneath;
Though now divided by the stream,
The narrow stream of death.

3 One army of the living God,

To His command we bow;

Part of the host have cross'd the flood,
And part are crossing now.

C.M.

4 Saviour, be Thou our constant guide;
Then, when the word is giv'n,

Bid Death's cold stream its waves divide
And land us safe in heav'n.

The Praise of Nations.

S.M.

bless Thy chosen race,

In mercy, Lord, incline;

And cause the brightness of Thy face
On all Thy saints to shine.

2 That so Thy wondrous way

May through the world be known;
While distant lands their tribute pay,
And Thy salvation own.

3 Let differing nations join
To celebrate Thy fame;

Let all the world, O Lord, combine
To praise Thy glorious name.

4 O let them shout and sing

With joy and pious mirth;

For Thou, the righteous Judge and King,
Shalt govern all the earth,

Universal Worship.

L.M.

THOU, to whom, in ancient time, The lyre of Hebrew bards was strung! Whom kings adored in songs sublime, And prophets praised with glowing tongue!

2 Not now on Zion's height alone

The favoured worshipper may dwell;
Nor where, at sultry noon, Thy Son
Sat weary by the patriarch's well.
3 From every place below the skies,
The grateful song, the fervent prayer,
The incense of the heart, may rise

To heaven, and find acceptance there.
4 To Thee shall age, with snowy hair,
And strength and beauty, bend the knee;
And childhood lisp, with reverent air,
Its praises and its prayers to Thee.
5 O Thou, to whom, in ancient time,
The lyre of prophet bards was strung!
To Thee, at last, in every clime,

Shall temples rise, and praise be sung.

Streams from Zion.

SEE, from Zion's sacred mountain,

Streams of living water flow;
God has opened there a fountain
That supplies the world below.
They are blessed,

Who its sovereign virtues know. 2 Gladdened by the flowing treasure, All enriching as it goes,

Lo! the desert smiles with pleasure,
Buds and blossoms as the rose.
Every object

Sings for joy where'er it flows.
