3 Fain I would be as Thou art;
Let me have Thy loving mind.
Guidance of the Spirit. L.M. 1 COME, gracious Spirit, heavenly Dove,
U With light and comfort from above;
O’er every thought and step preside. 2 The light of truth to us display,
And make us know and choose Thy way;
That we from God may not depart. 3 Lead us to holiness, the road
That we must take to dwell with God;
Nor let us from His precepts stray. 4 Lead us to God, our final rest,
In His enjoyment to be blest;
C.M. 1 THERE is a Holy Dove that sings
I To every Christian child,
That whispers to his little heart
A song so sweet and mild
That speaks his soul within,
And holds him back from sin.
Nor tempt It to depart-
That whispers to his heart:
Must strive, and watch, and pray;
Will drive that Dove away.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit. C.M. 1 COME, Holy Ghost, the Comforter,
U Whom Jesus sends from heaven,
And show our sins forgiven.
Let them Thy temples prove; Nor let our sinfulness and pride
Provoke Thee to remove.
And all our sins subdue;
And form our souls anew.
4 Where God the Spirit is a guest,
All graces there abound; Love, joy, and peace make calm the breast,
And thanks and praise resound. 1. Prayer to the Spirit.
7s. 1 HOLY Spirit, from on high
I Bend on us a pitying eye;
Bid the power of sin depart. 2 Light up every dark recess
of our hearts' ungodliness;
Where our steps have gone astray.
Humbly to implore relief :
Can for human guilt atone. 4 May we daily grow in grace
And pursue the heavenly race ;
II. THE WORD OF GOD.
The Value of the Bible. 1 HOLY Bible, book divine,
I Precious treasure, thou art mine!
2 Mine, to chide me when I rove;
Mine, to show a Saviour's love;
Mine, to judge, condemn, acquit; 3 Mine, to comfort in distress,
If the Holy Spirit bless;
How to triumph over death! 4 Mine, to tell of joys to come,
Mine, to show the sinner's doom :
C.M. 1 TAMP of our feet, whereby we trace
Our path when wont to stray ;
Brook by the traveller's way.
True manna from on high;
Of realms beyond the sky. 3 Word of the everlasting God,
Will of His glorious Son;
Or heaven itself be won?
The wisdom it imparts;
With childlike simple hearts.
The Statutes of God. C.M. 1 0 THAT the Lord would guide my ways
U To keep His statutes still!
To know and do His will!
Thy law upon my heart !
Nor act the liar's part.
And make my heart sincere;
But keep my conscience clear.
'Tis a delightful road;
Offend against my God.
8.7.D. 1 ALL the words which God hath spoken
A May our hearts by faith receive;
In His truth may we believe.
Through our dark and doubtful way,
In a bright eternal day.
