91.

Yet still go on from day to day,
Just as we always went.

3 Repentance is, to leave

The sins we loved before,
And show that we in earnest grieve,
By doing so no more.

4 Lord, make us thus sincere,
To watch as well as pray;
However small, however dear,
Take all our sins away.

Early Piety.

1 WHEN we devote our youth to God,
"Tis pleasing in His eyes:

A flower when offered in the bud,
Is no vain sacrifice.

2 'Tis easier work if we begin

To serve the Lord betimes!
While sinners that grow old in sin
Are hardened in their crimes.

3 'Twill save us from a thousand snares
To mind religion young:

Grace will preserve our following years,
And make our virtues strong.

C.M.

4 Let the sweet work of prayer and praise
Employ my youngest breath;

Thus I'm prepared for longer days,
Or fit for early death.

The Noble Mind.

OH! for the noble mind,

That ne'er will stoop to shame,
But strives to leave behind,

A spotless name.

A soul above the sordid men

Who basely wrong will do for gain,
A soul that scorns to grovel thus,

Be this the soul for us.

Oh! for the noble mind, &c.

2 Oh! for the will to keep

The way we know is right;
And may that way, though steep,
Be our delight.

Give us the heart no fears can shake,
"Nor pain, nor loss for Jesus' sake;"
Our consciences shall ne'er be sold,

P.M.

For all their shining gold.

Oh! for the will to keep, &c.

3 Oh! for the times again,

When conscience ruled the day;
When holy faithful men,

Shall truth obey;

The sacred cause of Jesus love,
Like martyrs firm and steadfast prove,
Who rather than from duty fly,

Shall bravely choose to die.
Oh! for the times again, &c.

Forgiving Love.

LORD! forgive me, day by day,
Debts I cannot hope to pay :

Duties I have left undone;
Evils I have failed to shun :

2 Trespasses in word and thought;
Deeds from evil motive wrought;
Cold ingratitude, distrust;
Thoughts unhallowed or unjust.

3 Pardon, Lord! and are there those
Who my debtors are, or foes?
I, who by forgiveness live,
Here their trespasses forgive.

4 Much forgiven, may I learn
Love for hatred to return;
Then, assured my heart shall be,
Thou, my God, hast pardoned me.

God Present Everywhere.

1 GOD is in heaven; and can He hear A little prayer like mine?

C.M.

Yes, thoughtful child, thou need'st not fear, He listeneth to thine.

2 God is in heaven; and can He see

When I am doing wrong?

Yes, that He can, He looks at thee
All day and all night long.

3 God is in heaven; and would He know
If I should tell a lie ?

Yes; if thou saidst it very low
He'd hear it in the sky.

4 God is in heaven; and does He care,
Or is He good to me?

Yes; all thou hast to eat or wear,
'Tis God that giveth thee.

5 God is in heaven; and can I go
To thank Him for His care?
Not yet; but love Him here below
And He will see it there.

6 God is in heaven; and may I pray
To go there when I die?

Yes, if thou'rt good; for then one day
He'll call thee to the sky.

A

Little and Much.

LITTLE! 'tis a little word,
But much may in it dwell;

Then let the warning truth be heard,
And learn the lesson well.
The way of ruin thus begins,
Down, down, like easy stairs;
If conscience suffers little sins,
Soon larger ones it bears.

2 A little theft, a small deceit,
Too often leads to more;

'Tis hard at first, but tempts the feet
As through an open door.

C.M.D.

Just as the broadest rivers run

From small and distant springs,
The greatest crimes that men have done
Have grown from little things.
3 The child who early disobeys,
Stands now on slippery ground;
And who shall tell, in future days,
How low he may be found?
A little! 'tis a little word,
But much may in it dwell;
Then let the warning truth be heard,
And learn the lesson well.

Little Things.

ITTLE drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the beauteous land.
2 And the little moments,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.

3 Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make our earth an Eden,
Like the heaven above.

4 So our little errors

Lead the soul away,
From the paths of virtue
Into sin to stray.
