after Epiphany.

2 In darkest shades if Thou appear,
My dawning is begun:

Thou art my soul's bright morning-star,
And Thou my rising sun.

3 The op'ning heavens around me shine,
With beams of sacred bliss;
While Jesus shows his love is mine,
And whispers I am his.

4 My soul would leave this heavy clay,
At that transporting word;
Mount up with joy the shining way,
To meet and praise my Lord.

5 Fearless of hell and ghastly death,
I'd break through ev'ry foe:

The wings of love and arms of faith
Should bear me conqu'ror through.

3rd Sunday after Epiphany.

Missionary.

Psalm ii, 8. Acts xv, 14-18; xx, 24.

1 MARK'D as the purpose of the skies,
This promise meets our anxious eyes,
That heathen lands the Lord shall know,
And warm with faith each bosom glow.

L. M.

after Epiphany.

2 E'en now the hallow'd scenes appear;
E'en now unfolds the promis'd year;
Lo! distant shores thy heralds trace,
And swell the tidings of thy grace.

3['Mid burning climes and frozen plains,
Where pagan darkness brooding reigns,
O mark their steps, their fears subdue,
And nerve their arm, and clear their view!]

4[When, worn by toil, their spirits fail,
Bid them the glorious future hail;
Bid them the crown of life survey,
And onward urge their conqu'ring way.]

5 So o'er the Indian's gloomy night
Truth shall diffuse her radiant light,
And mild religion's power controul
The stormy passions of his soul.

6 So shall Messiah's influence shed
Life, grace, and glory on his head;
And heav'nly hope his breast pervade,
Though years, and time, and worlds shall fade.

8.7.4.

Sinners welcomed to Christ.

Matt. viii, 2, 3. Heb. vii, 25.

1 COME, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
This is your accepted hour;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of mercy, love, and power:
He is able,

He is willing: doubt no more.

2[Oh! ye needy, ye are welcome,
God's free bounty glorify:
True belief, and true repentance,
Ev'ry grace which brings us nigh,
Without money,

Come to Jesus Christ and buy.
3 Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him:
This He gives you;

'Tis the Spirit's rising beam. 4 Come, ye weary, heavy-laden, Lost and ruin'd by the fall; If you tarry till you're better, You will never come at all: Not the righteous;

Sinners Jesus came to call,

after Epiphany.

5 Lo! th' incarnate God, ascended,
Pleads the merit of his blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly;
Let no other trust intrude:
None but Jesus

Can do helpless sinners good.

Praise to the Lamb that was slain.

Rev. v, 8-14.

1 COME, let us join our cheerful songs With angels round the throne;

C. M.

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.

2 "Worthy the Lamb that died," they cry,
"To be exalted thus;"

"Worthy the Lamb," our lips reply, "For He was slain for us.'

3 Jesus is worthy to receive

Honour and power divine:

[ocr errors]

And blessings more than we can give
Be, Lord, for ever thine!

4[Let all that dwell above the sky,
And air, and earth, and seas,
Conspire to lift thy glories high,
And speak thine endless praise!]

K

after Epiphany.

5 The whole creation join in one
To bless the sacred name
Of Him that sits upon the throne,
And to adore the Lamb!

6[Oh! may we ever bear a part
In this immortal song!

57

May joy and wonder tune each heart,
And love command each tongue!]

Matt. xi, 28.

The sinner invited.

John vi, 37.

P. M.

Rev. xxii, 17.

1 Just as thou art, without one trace
Of love, or joy, or inward grace,
Or meetness for the heavenly place,
O guilty sinner, come!

2 Burdened with guilt, would'st thou be blest?
Trust not the world, it gives no rest;
I bring relief to hearts oppress'd-
O weary sinner, come!

3 Come, leave thy burden at my cross;
Count all thy gains but empty dross;
My grace repays all earthly loss-
O needy sinner, come!
