after Epiphany.

2 Ah! there the wild tempest for ever shall

cease;

No billow shall ruffle that haven of peace; Temptation and trouble alike shall depart, All tears from the eye, and all sin from the heart.

3 Soon, soon may this Eden of promise be mine;

Rise, bright Sun of glory! no more to decline; Thy light, yet unrisen, the wilderness cheers: Oh! what will it be when the fulness appears!

The prodigal welcomed home.

Isa. lxi, 10. Luke xv, 22-24.

1 THE wanderer no more will roam,
The lost one to the fold hath come,
The prodigal is welcom❜d home,
O Lamb of God, in Thee!

2 Though clad in rags, by sin defil'd,
The Father hath embrac'd his child;
And I am pardon'd, reconcil'd,

O Lamb of God, in Thee!

3 It is the Father's joy to bless;
His love provides for me a dress,
A robe of spotless righteousness,
O Lamb of God, in Thee!

4 Then sorrow, touch'd by Thee, grows bright
With more than rapture's ray;
As darkness shows us worlds of light
We never saw by day.

Christ our pilot.

Matt. viii, 23-27.

[merged small][ocr errors][merged small][merged small]

Mark iv, 35-41.

JESUS! at thy command
I launch into the deep,
And leave my native land,

Where sin lulls all asleep;

For Thee I would the world resign,

148th.

And sail to heaven with Thee and thine.

Thou art my pilot wise;

My compass is thy word;
My soul each storm defies,
While I have such a Lord:

I trust thy faithfulness and power
To save me in the trying hour.

Whene'er becalm'd I lie,

And all my storms subside,
Then to my succour fly,

And keep me near thy side;

For more the treach'rous calm I dread,
Than tempests bursting o'er my head.

after Epiphany.

4 By faith I see the land,

The port of endless rest:
My soul! thy sails expand,

And haste to Jesu's breast:

Oh! may I reach the heav'nly shore,
Where winds and waves distress no more!

Life a voyage.

Ps. cvii, 30; cxxx, 1.

1 THE billows swell; the winds are high; Clouds overcast my wintry sky;

Out of the depths to Thee I call; My fears are great, my strength is small. 2 O Lord! the pilot's part perform,

And guide and guard me thro' the storm; Defend me from each threat'ning ill, Controul the waves, say, "Peace, be still." 3 Amidst the roaring of the sea

My soul still hangs her hope on Thee:
Thy constant love, thy faithful care,
Are all that save me from despair.

4 Dangers of every shape and name
Attend the followers of the Lamb,
Who leave the world's deceitful shore,
And leave it to return no more.

after Epiphany.

5 Though tempest-toss'd, and half a wreck,
My Saviour through the floods I seek;
Let neither winds nor stormy main
Force back my shatter'd bark again.

Worthy the Lamb!
Rev. v, 12.

1 GLORY to God on high!
Let heaven and earth reply,
Praise ye his Name!

His love and grace adore,
Who all our sorrows bore;
Sing aloud evermore,
Worthy the Lamb."

66

2 Jesus, our Lord and God,
Bore sin's tremendous load;
Praise ye his Name!

Tell what his arm hath done,
What spoils from death He won;
Sing his great Name alone-

66

'Worthy the Lamb."

3 Let all the hosts above,
In realms of endless love,
Praise his dear Name:

To Him ascribed be
Honour and majesty
Through all eternity-

66

'Worthy the Lamb."

P. M.

after Epiphany.

4 Though we must change our place, Yet shall we never cease

Praising his Name:

To Him we'll tribute bring,
Hail Him our gracious King,
And without ceasing sing,

66

Worthy the Lamb.'

5th Sunday after Epiphany.

Triumph of Christ over Antichrist.
Hab. ii, 14. Zech, xiv, 9.

1 BRIGHT as the sun's meridian blaze,
Vast as the blessings he conveys,
Wide as his reign from pole to pole,
And permanent as his controul;

2 So, Jesus! let thy kingdom come;
Then sin and hell's terrific gloom
Shall at thy brightness flee away-
The dawn of an eternal day.

3 Then shall the heathen, fill'd with awe,
Learn the blest knowledge of thy law;
And Antichrist, on ev'ry shore,

Fall from his throne to rise no more.
