Who is the King of glory? who?
The Lord, of glorious power possest;
The King of saints and angels too;
God over all, for ever blest.

Prayer for mercy.

To GOD, in whom I trust,
I lift my heart and voice;
O let me not be put to shame,
Nor let my foes rejoice.
Thy mercies and thy love,
O Lord, recall to mind;
And graciously continue still,
As Thou wert ever, kind.

Let all my youthful crimes

Be blotted out by Thee;

And, for thy wondrous goodness' sake,

In mercy think on me.

4 His mercy and his truth

5

The righteous Lord displays,

In bringing wand'ring sinners home,
And teaching them his ways.

Through all the ways of God
Both truth and mercy shine,
To such as with religious hearts
To his blest will incline.

29

The majesty of God.

1 SING, ye sons of might, O sing
Praise to heaven's eternal King;
Power and strength to Him assign;
Bow before his hallow'd shrine.

2 Hark! his voice in thunder breaks!
Hush'd to silence, when He speaks,
Ocean's waves, from pole to pole,
Hear the awful accents roll.

3 See, as louder yet they rise,
Echoing through the vaulted skies,
See, uprooted from his seat,
Lebanon itself retreat!

4 Now the bursting clouds give way,
And the vivid light'nings play!
Now the wilds, by man untrod,
Hear dismay'd th' approaching God!

Fraise to the Creator.

1 LET all the just to God with joy
Their cheerful voices raise,

For well the righteous it becomes
To sing glad songs of praise.

C. M.

2[By his almighty word at first
The heavenly arch was rear'd,
And all the beauteous hosts of light
At his command appear'd.

3 Let earth and all that dwell therein
Before Him trembling stand;

For when He spake the word, 'twas made,
"Twas fix'd at his command.]

4 Whate'er the mighty Lord decrees
Shall stand for ever sure;
The settled purpose of his heart
To ages shall endure.

5 How happy then are they, to whom
The Lord for God is known;
Whom He from all the world besides
Has chosen for his own!

6[The riches of thy mercy, Lord,
Do Thou to us extend;
Since we for all we want or wish
On Thee alone depend.]

34

Praise for deliverance.

1 THRO' all the changing scenes of life,

In trouble and in joy,

The praises of my God shall still
My heart and tongue employ.

C. M.

2 Of his deliv'rance I will boast, Till all that are distrest

From my example comfort take, And charm their griefs to rest. 3 O magnify the Lord with me, With me exalt his Name; When in distress to Him I call'd, He to my rescue came.

4 O make but trial of his love;
Experience will decide,

How bless'd they are, and only they,
Who in his truth confide.

5 Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then
Have nothing else to fear;

Make you his service your delight,
Your wants shall be his care.

38

Prayer under the burden of sin.

1 THY chast'ning wrath, O Lord, restrain,
Though I deserve it all;

Nor let at once on me the storm
Of thy displeasure fall.

2 My sins, that to a deluge swell,
My sinking head o'erflow,

And for my feeble strength to bear
Too vast a burden grow.

3 And, with continual grief opprest,
To sink I now begin :

To Thee, O Lord, I will confess,
To Thee bewail my sin.

4 Forsake me not, O Lord my God,
Nor far from me depart;
Make haste to my relief, O Thou,
Who my salvation art.

42

Thirsting for God.

1 AS PANTS the hart for cooling streams,
When heated in the chase;

So longs my soul, O God, for Thee,
And thy refreshing grace.

2 For Thee, my God, the living God,
My thirsty soul doth pine:

O when shall I behold thy face,
Thou Majesty divine!

3 Why restless, why cast down, my soul?
Trust God, who will employ

His aid for thee, and change these sighs
To thankful hymns of joy.

4 God of my strength, how long shall I
Like one forgotten, mourn?
Forlorn, forsaken, and expos'd
To my oppressor's scorn?
